SCE2007 Version 6.0.1885.0
We are running SCE2007 Version 6.0.1885.0 for last few years. We are not going to be purchasing any new SCE server software for a while. My questions is that are there any updates needs to be applied to SCE2007? Is there a new client agent needs to be installed on users XP machines? Also I have few Windows 7 computers within our company and they are showing as windows 6.1 and I was wondering if I need to install any new updates/agent onto these Windows 7 machines? Hello Deep, The version 6.0.1885.0 indicates SCE 2007 SP1. To manage Windows XP machines, you do not need any update or new client agent. To manage Windows 7 machines, the following steps are required to enable management: 1. Upgrade the System Center Essentials 2007 SP1 Server to WSUS 3.0 SP2. For instructions on how to download WSUS 3.0 SP2 and the improvements in WSUS 3.0 SP2, please see http://support.microsoft.com/kb/972455. 2. For Windows 7, download the Windows Client 2000/XP/Vista/Windows 7 Operating System management packs for Operations Manager 2007 and import it into System Center Essentials 2007 SP1. For more information, please click the link below: Support for Windows Server 2008 R2 and Windows 7 in System Center Essentials 2007 SP1 http://blogs.technet.com/b/systemcenteressentials/archive/2009/11/06/support-for-windows-server-2008-r2-and-windows-7-in-system-center-essentials-2007-sp1.aspx Thanks,Yog Li - MSFT

I have downloaded the WSUS 3.0 SP2 from http://support.microsoft.com/kb/972455. I have WSUS 3.0 SP1 which is installed already on the SCE2007 on 2003 server standard with 64 editions so this means I have to download 64 bits WSUS 3.0 SP2? Also the WSUS 3.0 SP1 is installed in Administrative Tools so how can I install the WSUS 3.0 SP2 on the same location? After downloading WSUS 3.0 SP2, can I just run the setup.exe? Do I have to do anything to the previous WSUS 3.0 SP1? Do I have to stop any services on the SCE2007? Would I be able to update WSUS 3.0 SP2 during the production time? Would this update require me to restart the SCE2007 server? Do I have to do anything in the SQL server? Thanks ThanksDeep Kumar

Hello Deep, You can also find the installation steps from the KB article you mentioned. To install WSUS 3.0 SP2 using Server Manager Log on to the server on which you plan to install WSUS 3.0 SP2 by using an account that is a member of the local Administrators group. Click Start, point to Administrative Tools, and then click Server Manager. In the right side pane of the Server Manager window, if Windows Server Update Services is not listed in the Roles Summary section, click Add Roles. If the Before You Begin page appears, click Next. On the Select Server Roles page, select Windows Server Update Services. On the Windows Server Update Services page, click Next. On the Confirm Installation Selections page, click Install. When the WSUS 3.0 SP2 Setup Wizard starts, skip the next page in the wizard, and complete the steps in the wizard that begin on the To continue installing WSUS 3.0 SP2 page. To read the WSUS 3.0 SP2 Release Notes for more information about this release, visit the following Web site: http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=139840 For detailed installation instructions, see the WSUS 3.0 SP2 Step by Step Guide at the following Microsoft Web site: http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkID=139836 The two articles above will help you with installing WSUS 3.0 SP2. Hello, The Server Manager console only exists in Windows Server 2008. If you are using Windows Server 2003, just run the WSUSSetup.exe File: 1. Log on to the server on which you plan to install WSUS 3.0 SP2 by using an account that is a member of the Local Administrators group. 2. Double-click the WSUSSetup.exe installer file. 3. When the Windows Server Update Services 3.0 SP2 Setup Wizard is started, see the “To continue installing WSUS 3.0 SP2” procedure. Thanks,Yog Li - MSFT
