SCCM x64 Boot Image with NIC support ESX 4.1.0
I have a ESX 4.1.0 environment in which I want to capture a Windows 7 x64 reference image and deploy a Windows 7 x64 image. I can't find the correct NIC driver to be added to the SCCM WinPE x64 Bootimage so that when booted from the created task sequence boot media the NIC is loaded. I now get the message that a correct network adapter can;t be found. On x86 it it working perfect and I do not have any problem, but on x64 I can;t get it to work. My version of SCCM is SCCM 2007 SP2. The used WinPE version is 6.1.7600. Does any one knows which driver to add and can send it to me or tell me where to get the driver ? I already tries AMD PC NET. Intel E1000, VMXNET, VMXNET3 drivers all x64 versions.

Please refer to the below link this should resolve your problems. With the Windows 7 Guest OS shutdown, open the associated .vmx file in Notepad. Scroll to the end of the file and add the line ethernet0.virtualDev = "e1000" Save the file and close it. Restart the Windows 7 Guest OS, and Windows will automatically recognise the Network Adapter as 'Intel(R) PRO/1000 MT Network Connection'. http://communities.vmware.com/thread/188094 Thanks, BrandonBrandon Linton |http://myitforum.com/cs2/blogs/brandonlinton/default.aspx | MCTS - SCCM, MDT, AD

when you create the VM within ESX, the choice of guest OS determines what NIC will be setup in the vmx file. different editions/versions of vmware will offer different NICs. The Windows 7 Device Manager reports the network adapter as an Unknown Device http://kb.vmware.com/kb/1033879 Manually configuring a virtual machine to use the e1000 network adapter driver http://kb.vmware.com/kb/1003020 Choosing a network adapter for your virtual machine http://kb.vmware.com/kb/1001805 Troubleshooting networking and internet connection issues in VMware Fusion http://kb.vmware.com/kb/1016466 Deploying Windows 2008 R2 and Windows 7 templates with vmxnet3 renames the NIC as #2 http://kb.vmware.com/kb/1020078 Network adapter change needed for some VMware Products running Windows Vista http://kb.vmware.com/kb/1011728 Don
