... and you'll see issues where it's not working as expected. So *I* do not recommend even trying to install it ... it's waste of time.

We do now support this. Here's some details to help you out with it: SQL Server 2008 is now supported on Configuration Manager 2007 RTM and SP1 System Center Configuration Manager 2007 (RTM and SP1) now supports the use of SQL Server 2008 as a site database. In order to upgrade a site-server database to SQL 2008 there are 2 hot fixes required: ConfigMgr 2007 RTM customers must apply hot fix KB955229 ConfigMgr 2007 SP1 customers must apply hot fix KB955262 The following are requirements when performing a clean install on a SQL Server 2008 database: A clean install of ConfigMgr 2007 RTM on a SQL Server 2008 database is not supported. You must first install SQL Server 2005, upgrade to SQL Server 2008 and then apply hot fix KB955229 A clean install of ConfigMgr 2007 SP1 on a SQL Server 2008 database is supported, but should apply hot fix KB955262

Hi Wally, How about R2? Kan KB955262 be applied to a SP1 installation already upgraded to R2?

R2 is NOT a version of Configuration Manager. It is a set of add-ons to provide new functionality (expose new things in the admin console). After you've installed R2, if you check your version, it is still SP1 (4.00.6221.1000). As to R2 and SQL Server 2008, it is not officially supported yet. SP1 is, R2 is not yet. We're finalizing the testing of that right now, and should have a support statement for R2 and SQL Server 2008 soon.

Yes, we had the same confusion with SMS 2003 when that R2 release came out. Everyone back then wanted to know how to "upgrade" to R2, which again, you didn't back then either. Personally, I'd not call it R2 as it is confusing. But I do know it is confusing. Configuration Manager 2007 RTM is a verion, Configuration Manager 2007 SP1 is a version, but Configuration Manager 2007 R2 is an add-on to the SP1 release.

A hotfix for what? SQL 2008 RTM and SP1 are listed as supported "SQL Server Site Database Configurations" in the SP2 docs.
