SCCM software deployment using new Site Code
Hi all, I have an interesting scenario and I am not too sure what will be the best approach to solving this. I have a customer which had a SCCM 2007 environment and it is causing production frustration due to wrong design and implementation. Customer’s requirements are to implement a new SCCM SP2 environment and decommission the old. They aren’t concerned about loss of SCCM information so no export and import activities are scoped. The problem or concern is as follows I reinstalled the Client on all devices to point to the new Primary site. The client uninstall process removes the SCCM client and also removes all advertised information on the devices from to the previous environment. This is my scenario, Office will reinstall if it is advertise to the client due to no advertisement information pointing to the new SCCM infrastructure in the software distribution history. What I was thinking of, is to create a dummy program to run on the client and populate the software distribution history. Later remove the dummy program from the advertisement and replace it with the Office install program. This will ensure that the advertisement information is in the software distribution history registry hive. If there are any other ideas, I am happy to test them. Cheers

Thanks all, will incorporate these suggestions. One thing though, how do you report on office installations via the new SCCM environement. The machine will not have any advertisement entries. That is why i am looking at deploying a program that will create the advertised registry entries, then later changing the program. any suggestions there?
