SCCM server OS upgrade

Hi,

in a few weeks I have to upgrade the server OS at a customer again.

this will not be the first time I'm doing this, so my question is not how to do this...

initially the customer had installed everything by himself and had used a named instance for SQL (which is on the same box)

since I have to use the same sql version on the new server box with the higher OS, I guess we also have to work again with the named instance?

(would like to get rid of that)

is this documented or anyone that can confirm/deny (otherwise I'll keep it just to be safe...)

Please check the article below first.

Manageing Metadata When Restoring to Another Server Instance

"When you restore a database onto another server instance, to provide a consistent experience to users and applications, you might have to re-create some or all of the metadata for the database, such as logins and jobs, on the other server instance. For more information, see Manage Metadata When Making a Database Available on Another Server Instance (SQL Server)."

Here is also a blog describing how to restore database keeping the same named instance.
