Does anyone have any experience with running SCCM in a virtual environment?

Ballpark estimate around 600 - maybe a bit more.

For 600 users I would consider it. I think Hyper-V works better than VMWare but supposedly the newest version of VMWare has some improvements. I did a deployment for a company with 500 users all in a single location and we used virtual and it worked OK. IMO, physical is always better though for anything that runs SQL.
