SCCM prerequiste error: Unprocessed Site Control Files
We have been in the process of upgrading to SCCM 2007 SP2. Last Friday, we were down to 5 warnings. Today, we have received this error. There are 16 unprocessed site control files (according to the log). The configuration is one SCCM server and a separate SQL server. I have not seen any errors in the logs in the inbox directory, nothing on the SQL server. No unusual events on either the SCCM or SQL servers. Having checked the forum and Internet, I am not sure where to look next. Any help would be appreciated.

I would suggest to look at the site to site communication is happening properly. Also, if there is any backlog in Microsoft Configuration Manager\inboxes\sitectrl.box? The below article will help to check the site to site communication issues http://blogs.msdn.com/b/steverac/archive/2010/07/16/understanding-site-to-site-communication-in-sms-sccm.aspxAnoop C Nair - This posting is provided "AS IS" with no warranties or guarantees, and confers no rights. |Please remember to click Mark as Answer on the post that helps you, and to click Unmark as Answer if a marked post does not actually answer your question. It is ok to proceed with the upgrade if you only receive warnings. It is very rare that a (real production) site runs thru the prereq checker without any warnings. Just make sure you have a backup of everything before starting the upgrade.Kent Agerlund | My blogs: http://blog.coretech.dk/author/kea/ and http://scug.dk/ | Twitter @Agerlund | Linkedin: /kentagerlund

Hi, Please also see: Setup Prerequisite Checks The prerequisite checker notifies you of any warnings or errors encountered that would cause setup or an upgrade to fail. Tests that result in a warning do not prevent you from successfully upgrading to Configuration Manager 2007. However, it is recommended that you resolve the condition that generated the warning before continuing the setup or upgrade process. Site control file processing backlog: Warning Verifies that site control file changes are being processed in a timely fashion. To ensure that data is not lost during the upgrade process, site control file changes should be being processed in a timely fashion. If this test does not pass, it could indicate that a component has stopped, has stopped processing data, or is unable to keep up with incoming traffic. Anoop, Thank you for the suggestion. Nothing was being logged. The last communication entry was 4 days previous. As nothing else had changed, I took a bold step and rebooted the server instance. The log showed 8 requestes had processed. Did not find what had shut down to cause the communication to stop.

Kent, The message of the unprocessed site control files was an actual error. Not a warning. I know the prereq process and documentation says all errors should be corrected. I rebooted the server and 8 items were processed. I do not know what failed as to not process the files. Thanks for the assistance.

Sabrina, This is what we were doing. The documantation says all errors should be corrected. This processing fo the site control files was an error; not a warning in the setup /prereque process. Not sure what had shut down to cause the files not to process, but a reboot of the server solved the issue. Thanks for your assistance.

In this specific case, there was a process that hung or stalled causing requests to back up. A reboot of the server corrected the issue.
