SCCM not deploying programs on to XP computers
Hey all,
The shop I am working in is running SCCM 2007 in a Mixed environment on a Windows 2003 R2 server (upgrating to Windows 2008 R2 as soon as we get the budget to do
so). The issue I am having is that no matter the program I am unable to push programs to an XP computer. I have tried .exe and .msi to run on the computer it is deploying to and for it to run hidden and/or quiet.
I have no problems when pushing programs to Windows 7 computers though.
I have made sure that the programs that I am deploying can run quietly, on the XP computers, by using the command prompt for .MSI files at least by using the /q (/qn) function.
Any assistance would be appreciated. Thank you for your help

Hi,
1) You can't upgrade the OS from Windows 2003 to Windows 2008 R2. Only upgrade path is to use the sccm backup/restore feature
2) Sounds like you have an Operating System requirement on the program properties for a specific OS.Kent Agerlund | My blogs: http://blog.coretech.dk/author/kea/ and http://scug.dk/ | Twitter @Agerlund | Linkedin: /kentagerlund

1) True but I know at some point we are going to upgrade our systems and we will more than likely re-install everything on a virtual server till we can retire the 2003 server.
2) The only issue with the Operating System requirement is that the programs work when you do a regular install of the programs on the XP computer Example programs Adobe 8
Standard .msi file can run quietly to a Windows 7 computer but not a XP computer. However if the .msi file is on the computer and is run through the command prompt with the /qn command it works perfectly on the XP computer and Windows 7.
Same goes for a program like jZip.exe file I am able to deploy it to a Windows 7 computer but not XP. Was SCCM set up wrong? We had a contractor from Microsoft and Twenty
Second Centery come in to set SCCM up.

What happens when you try and deploy the packages to XP? Does anything show up in the status of the deployment in the report, or in execmgr.log on the client?

When I run the report for our Test collection I get:
·
Advertisement name
·
(open the target)
Resource Receipt Status “No
Status”, Number of Resorces "1", Percentage Recorces
"100", Advertisement ID "(what ever it is)"
·
(open the target)
Name of the computer, User (if logged on), and in
Last Acceptance Message Name “No messages have been received“.
·
(open the target) nothing to be found.
I have tried to run the Machine Policy Retrieval & Evaluation Cycle so I can see if the computer wasn’t syncing with the server correctly and also checked the Cashe file
under WINDOWS\System32\CCM to make sure there is nothing in there (even after the deployment no files are put in to the Cashe).
Also I checked to see if it was in the Add New Programs under
Add Remove Programs, after the advertisement has run its course to its completed time (I usually give test deployments at least three hours before tweaking it to a more respectable time).

I also just found out that all XP computers no longer communicate with the server but Windows 7 Computers do
So any information on re-syncing the XP computers to the SCCM would be help full as well.
Thank you for your time.

You need to figure out why they are not cimmunicating. Start by looking for errors in the clientlocation.log and locationservices.log file on the client.Kent Agerlund | My blogs: http://blog.coretech.dk/author/kea/ and http://scug.dk/ | Twitter @Agerlund | Linkedin: /kentagerlund

Here are some of the errors that repeat. Any ideas on how to fix this?

Are those computers workgroup machines or domain joined? Is the AD schema extended, System Management container created and can the siteserver publish to AD successfully? Have you already tried manually entering the sitecode on of of the affected clients?
Does it work then?Torsten Meringer | http://www.mssccmfaq.de

1) The computers are part of (edit) *one* domain *and one active directory where SCCM gets its client information from.*
2) I will have to check if the AD schema is extended or not. However I can push to the AD if the computer is Windows 7 so it works. (edit 2: Yes AD schema is extended)
3) No real idea on how to manually enter the sitecode on the affected clients, but will try to figure it out.

Real answer to question 2, edit wasn't working for me, we run on Mixed Mode. Sorry about that.
