SCCM clients do not detect PDPs
I have one SCCM Site Server having DP as server share on D drive-smspkgd$. There are 5 other Servers (Domain Controllers) acting as PDPs protected by IP SUbnet as site boundaries. SCCM clients are not able to detect PDPs but are downloading package contents from Site Server DP ie. smspkgd$. WOrst of all they are not directly accsseing the contents from smspkgd$ but checking each and every drive of site server (like smspkgc$, smspkge$, smspkgf$) for package contents. Please tell why this is happening?

Are you sure that the Boundaries are correct? Does the content excist on all the DP's?Maybe this post explains a bit how a client picks its DP: http://www.petervanderwoude.nl/post/How-a-client-chooses-a-Distrubution-Point.aspxMy Blog: http://www.petervanderwoude.nl/

I have added AD iste as well as IP SUbnet as Boundaries. Also, I used IP SUbnet as boundaries for PDP. I have checked manually , content exist on all PDPs. But the client do not detect any PDP.

Hi,There is no need to configure AD site and IP subnet boundaries if those subnets are also assigned to the AD site. Make sure you don't have any overlapping boundaries. To prevent those clients to connect to another DP you can consider making the BDP a protected DP. Follow me through my blog!

I cross checked all Site Boundaries. There is no overlapping boundaries.

Did you configure each DP with a different Boundary? My Blog: http://www.petervanderwoude.nl/

Each DP is configured with their respective IP Subnets. Please note that PDPs are Domain Controllers here. I suspect it to e permission issue as PDPs are DOmain Controllers. Please let me know what all permssions are required or steps need to be taken when Domain Controllers are used as PDPs?

Did you already get packages copied to the DPs on the Domain Controllers? If not, the Site Server needs Local Admin rights on a DP server and in this case that would mean that it needs Domain Admin rights. My Blog: http://www.petervanderwoude.nl/

What's in locationservices.log, clientlocation.log and cas.log?

location services.log shows correct AD SIte name, MP. But taking DP from SCCM central server share instead of PDP.Client location.log shows correct MPCAS.log is trying to get content from sccm centrral server DP share instead of PDP.

Then it's definitelya matter of boundaries ... could you list their configuration please?

IP subnets are added as boundaries. DPs are protected using IP Subnet as boundaries. Cross chechked all the boundaries. They are fine. If this has been boundary issue, then I suppose client cannot pick correct AD Site as well, which is not the case.

The MP information comes from the AD... What Boundary is used for Central Site DP? And do those clients from that Boundary also exist in the IP Subnet Boundaries? My Blog: http://www.petervanderwoude.nl/

Cross chechked all the boundaries. They are fine. That's your opinion. I guess you won't get better answers if you don't give more details.
November 24th, 2009 1:41pm

Please let me know what all details you need. Central server DP share is not protected as it does not have any client assigned to it.

Site hierarchy? Boudaries for each site? Protection settings? IP / subnet mask of an affected client?
November 24th, 2009 2:08pm

SIte heirarchy: One SCCM central site server catering different locations. No client is physically present at central site server location.Domain Controllers at different location are used as server share with PDPs added as IP subnet. SCCm site server computer account is added as member of domain admin.Shares have all computer accounts and service account (with which sccm installation was done) given full control.IP SUbnets:ggn - 192.168.10.0hbt- 172.17.0.0SCCM central SIte server - unprotected (as no client is physically present at this location)NDA- 172.18.0.0okh- 172.20.0.0, 172.21.0.0ppg - 172.23.0.0ppn- 172.16.0.0, 172.24.0.0Boundaries have same IP subnets and added 172.25.0.0 (Boundary of sccm central site server added).

Have you already read that article: http://blogs.technet.com/wemd_ua_-_sms_writing_team/archive/2008/07/27/faqs-for-branch-distribution-points.aspx (especially "Why are my clients downloading packages from the standard distribution point in the site instead of the branch distribution point?")
