SCCM client issues.I can manually install the client without issue but it will not install remotely. What am I doing wrong?
Hi I have a SCCM server (trial) and 1 Windows 7 x64 enterprise test workstation. I can't seem to install the client remotely nothing happens no logs on the client workstation. I have done the folllowing 1. Turned of the firewall and firewall service on the workstation 2. Setup boundaries on my SCCM server, (Using AD) 3. My test workstation in assigned has ASSIGNED=YES In order to test I manually installed the client on my test workstation, and indeed it reports the client is installed in SCCM I then tried the remote tools and it says unable to contact host, so this leads me to believe part of my issue is that the workstation and the server are not communicating properly. Any help in trouble shooting this problem would be appreciated.

- Check if you can ping the workstation from SCCM using host name - Check if wmi service is running - Check if $admin is available over the network - Check if client push account is configured and is local administrator for the workstation you are trying to install the client

Potential troubleshooting steps, to see if there is still something preventing remote access: From the server, as YOU, can you get to admin$ of the remote box? What about remote WMI? If so, then from the server running as SYSTEM, can SYSTEM get to admin$ of the remote box? WMI remotely? fyi, http://verbalprocessor.com/2007/12/05/running-a-cmd-prompt-as-local-system/Standardize. Open ccm.log on your server and check for errors. John Marcum | http://myitforum.com/cs2/blogs/jmarcum/|

To answer your questions. Question:From the server, as YOU, can you get to admin$ of the remote box? What about remote WMI? Answer: My server is called W2K8-DC1, my workstation is called Win7x64. From my server -->start run \\WIN7X64\Admin$. I cannot connect. From my workstation-->\\w2k8-dc1\Admin$ I am able to connect to the server share. Wmi is enabled on both server and workstation. So this explains why I am unable to remotely install the SCCM client. How could I trouble shoot this issue. Also I am able to ping from the server to the workstation and from the workstation to the server without issue. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I fixed all my issues, I am able to installed the client remotely now and start a remote session. The problem was my server and work station (which are virtuals) was going through my router. Once I gave each a static IP it all worked fine.

Thanks Clive, My scenario is I have installed and configure the SCCM perfectly. Users in domain works fine. There is one child domain. I was not able to access the SMS_111 folder from child domain. So I have added child domain administrative rights to that folder and child folder. Now I am able to access. And so I have installed the client on child domain. But now I am not able to access or run remote tools for child doman. Is there any things that i have to added or give any rights for that. Please help in this. Thanks, AKSAKS
