I can build a query to accomplish this using TSQL and report without an issue but is it possible to create a WQL query for a collection to use this extended information?

From memory ... go to your site server, run WBEMTEST, connect to root\sms\site_<YOURSITECODE>, click Enum Clases, click Recursive and then click OK, do you see your new class in the list? It might look like this SMS_G_system_<YOUR CLASS>Hope it helps ...
