SCCM Updates not correctly working not sure why
In our environment we are trying to configure the GPO and SCCM, it worked just fine until last November then it went Tango Down.. We have added to the test environment 2 windows 7 machines and 2 windows server 2008 R2 servers. The windows 7 machines seem
to be getting the updates and installing them however the Servers are not retrieving the updates and or installing them. This is bewildering as both use the same GPO and SCCM configurations. Would anyone have an idea why this is o

You'll need to review some logs and do some troubleshooting. Start with wuahandler.log on a client not receiving updates.

Are the other SCCM agent components (hardware inventory/software inventory/software deployment) working and only the updates part failing on these servers?

What's the GPO for?

The hard part to figure out is what is and is NOT working, the Win7 Machines appear to be working and the CM is showing up in the servers BUT they are not showing any updates available.
And yes the ONLY part truly failing is the updates themselves ALL Logs show clearly they are connecting and should be receiving.

John,
To be honest the GPO was done prior to my coming in. I only know the GPO was created to control the Policies according to my buddy. Also we have the GPO to keep it to ONLY the Testing machines Globally for now.

Well, you're not giving us any technical details or any details at all of what you've configured so there's really nothing we can say here -- simply saying it doesn't work is meaningless. For us to help you, you need to tell us what you've done, A to Z,
as far as software updates is concerned including WSUS/SUP installation configuration, software update group configuration, package distribution, deployment creation, etc.
Also, be specific, statements like "the CM is showing up in the servers" don't mean anything because there's no such thing as "the CM" -- or at least it could mean one of many different things.

If software updates are not working and there are GPO's configured for software updates my guess if the GPO is breaking them.

What is the error you are getting. Is this issue with the Client end or the server end.
January 20th, 2015 12:31pm
Here is the strange thing there are NO errors showing up in the logs, I have removed and recreated the GPOs and Policies even lightened the load as to not put stress on the Policy.
One major issue I have noticed with .net 4.0 is that when I reboot a server or desktop with it instead it will not restart.. I have verified all updates in 4.0 as well as the WSUS 3 SP2 as well I also downloaded the MS SCCM Hotfix and installed as well.
But thit does not restart, I have to literally do an add remove and take it back to it's original state.
Now as for the connectivity issue I still am not able to get the DTs and Servers out there to communicate again. As I said I had her working just fine 2 weeks ago today for the first time since last year. However something is forcing a reboot on that server
at night and there are NO logs showing what BUT I know she is rebooting because the .NETs are DOA when I come in the next day...
This issue has gotten weirder and weirder and there seems to be 0 factual understanding out there of what is causing this activity. I sincerely appreciate everything so far.. If I can find ANY log views I will post them asap...

I did find on the SCCM Server an Event ID 5186 so far this is it... Could this be causing all this mess is the first question and if so what would be the best solution..
January 21st, 2015 1:57am
Well I finally got it running and stable however I found a HUGE issue that I am working to resolve with the .net 4.0 and I have tried using ALL the .net including 4.5 and it still occurs.. It does not restart once the system reboots..
It says "Some services top automatically if they are not being used by other services or programs." I tried to disable the MSI as I found someone had posted out there that this would cause it.. That failed the ONLY thing that fixes it is if I run
a Repair on the .Net Framework Extended then reboot. Then she works fine.. BUT as soon as the system reboots it's Tango Down again...
If anyone has an idea on this I would appreciate it.. I have also run all patches that I could find on MS regaring this...
Also just FYI this happens on both the servers and Desktop clients as well as the SCCM server itself... Here is a screenshot of the server and her updates now just FYI this has occurred since day one before and after these updates were installed.

This is not normal behavior (although I'm not exactly sure what you're calling out). Something environmental must be causing your issue.
January 22nd, 2015 3:17am
I completely agree this is NOT normal.. But at this point all I can do is hunt it down.. According to posts elsewhere it is an issue seen BUT not often.. The problem is I truly do not even have a direction to head in so I am playing the guessing game..

John,
Have you ever seen an error code like this one, this is the first time period that this .Net has logged an error code on its NOT restarting I got this from logs this morning..
However here is the issue it does not manually restart AGAIN even after it acted yesterday as though I had it resolved. I had to go back this morning and run a repair to get it resolved..
Application 'C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework64\v4.0.30319\SetupCache\Extended\Setup.exe' (pid 4204) cannot be restarted - Application SID does not match Conductor SID

Well, at this point, your issue seems to be .NET Framework centric so it's probably time to start a thread in a Windows or .NET forum.
January 23rd, 2015 9:28pm
Yes sir I agree,
Going to migrate my posts to them today sometime.. Thanks again and have a Great Weekend... Oh I forgot we don't get those..
