Hi,I tried installing SCCM 2007 SP2 on Windows 2008 R2. The installation returned fatal error and the installation got failed. It throwed the error message while installing SMS Provider. Hi All, I had a similair problem when installing SCCM 2007 SP2 on server 2008 R2, the solution that worked for me was the following procedure: 1. run setup.exe /download d:\prereq 2. copy the media to d:\SCCMsetup 3. replace the WAIK files (D:\SCCMsetup\SMSSETUP\WAIK) of the media (file dates 4:15) with the files from the RTM disk (file date 3:15). After this procedure i was able to do a complete and sucesfull installation of SCCM 2007 SP2 op 2008 R2 Last step is to complete the R3 update.

I was having the same exact issue with SCCM 2012. I resolved it by re-downloaded the ISO from TechNet. The one I had contained a corrupted Neutral.cab file as I was not able to open it via windows explorer. However, after I re-downloaded the ISO again, I was able to open via explorer and install it without issue on Windows Server 2008 R2. Hopes this helps.
