SCCM SP2 RC to SP2 RTM
I know there is no upgrade path from SCCMSP2 RC to RTM and everywhere I have read says I need a new SCCM install. What does that actually mean? Can I simply do an uninstall and use the same site code?I also have a secondary site that is SP2 RC that i'm using as a pxe server. I assume I should uninstall that from the console first? Thanks in advance.

Hi,Yuo need to delete/deinstall the secondary site before you remove the parent site. Once you reinstall the site I suggest you don't reuse the site code.Kent Agerlund | http://scug.dk/members/Agerlund/default.aspx | The Danish community for System Center products

Has anyone come across any blog posts or information on this? I'd really like to keep the same site code so if there is a specific area that the site code is left behind such as the ADobject in the System Management container can I just make sure that's gone? Thanks for the verification ondeinstalling the secondary site first.

Just about everyone who re-use a site code runs into issue, mostly from a client perspective. I recommend that your site code sure be meaningless and therefore you can chance it at will. If you are looking for my detail on this then I suggest that you look on www.myitforum.com there have been many post on this topic. Personally, I know that I will never reuse a site code, it just too much trouble. http://www.enhansoft.com/

Yea I don't want to have a mess to clean up so i'll use a different site code. Thanks for the forum recommendation as well.

It's not a production server as I would never put a RC on production, but it is a server in our dev AD that i'm doing proof of concept so that we can roll it out in production. I would like it to beat a production level of stability. *side note* We are currently using Ghost for pxe image deployment (different imagebuild for every piece of hardware and every software configuration)and i'm looking into whether we can/should switch over to SCCM for OSD. I have to test and convince others that SCCM is now the way to go.

No upgrade path as in it's not supported or you can't do it? I had an RC SP2 environment that I successfully upgraded to RTM SP2 without an issue. Is this environment now unsupported?

I'm not sure what you mean... It is definantly not supported to upgrade a production site from RC SP2 to RTM SP2.http://www.enhansoft.com/

Read licence agreement for SP2 RC EULA. It clearly states that RC code can only be used in test labs.http://www.enhansoft.com/

Thats right but it cannot stop you to upgrade to RTMSurendar Reddy

The EULA states that you can not run SP2 RC in production. Microsoft states that it's not supported to upgrade rc to rtm. if you don't believe us I would be willing to bet you a night's worth of beer at MMS that Wally wouldn't mind coming and telling you in this forum that it's not supported. Does unsupported mean impossible? Usually not but what if this was the one time that it did mean impossible? Would you be willing to completely start over and reinstall SCCM from scratch? (that'dbe hard to explain to management)If you answer no to that then you shouldn't install in an unsupported manner. On your site that you upgraded have you bothered to see if your clients are sending up software inventory? It does not stop you butthere are known issues with upgrading from SP2 RC to SP2 RTM too. I think NDA stop me form saying what they are....http://www.enhansoft.com/

Thanks Garth,Totally agree with you....As you said there was an issue from clients sending software inventory which we fixed them. However same NDA is also stopping me to explain more about the challenges upgrading from RC to RTM.Surendar Reddy

I have confirmed with the powers that be the only issue I am aware of is not under NDA Garth... (Software inventory) I think I even blogged about it. John Marcum | http://www.TrueSec.com/en/Training.htm | http://myitforum.com/cs2/blogs/jmarcum

However same NDA is also stopping me to explain more about the challenges upgrading from RC to RTM.... The only two groups of people I am aware of under NDA about this process are MVP's and TAP customers. If you are an MVP I must not know who you are. If you are a TAP upgrading is supported. Hi John,Yes I am a TAP customer... I believe blackg is also a TAP customer ashe is running site withSP2 RC, if so happy to help to upgrade to SP2 RTM and share workaround for software inventory issue.Surendar Reddy

Yes, if you are a TAP you should have had support in the upgrade process and that throws all the rules out the window.John Marcum | http://www.TrueSec.com/en/Training.htm | http://myitforum.com/cs2/blogs/jmarcum

BTW.... The software distribution fix is not under NDA. The fix was posted in a public MS forum. You have to install all the clients twice and then they should work. But I don't think blackg is a TAP customer, if he were he would know all of this already.John Marcum | http://www.TrueSec.com/en/Training.htm | http://myitforum.com/cs2/blogs/jmarcum
