SCCM Reporting Point Not Installing on Server 2008
I have been trying to install the Reporting Point component in SCCM 2007 on my Windows server 2008 for more than 2 weeks now. I keep getting the error: "Begin Install CMDLINE=/s /m=C:\PROGRA~1\MIF083~1\bin\i386\rep.val Error running smswwwroot.vbs script" in the SMSReportingInstall.log I have googled around but it looks like nobody has been able to resolve this issue. Any more ideas as to what might be causing the Reporting Point component not to install at all? Any ideas are welcome. Thanks, TeeDarling77

I assume you've met all the requirements for installing on 2008? Is this server running any other roles that require IIS? John Marcum | http://myitforum.com/cs2/blogs/jmarcum |

John,Yes, I have met all the requirements for IIS and everything else is working fine. All the other components I installed are working properly with the exception of this SMS_Reporting_POINT. The Application log keeps showing that SMS Site Component Manager failed to install this component on this site system. The Event ID # is 1016. I have also researched into this Event ID number with no lock. Management is putting pressure on me with the Software & Hardware inventory report and a report to show that patches are been installed on the machines on our network. I really need this Reporting component to work in order to generate these reports. Thanks, TeeDarling77

Hi, I think you need an IIS expert to see what happened. From my place, I can suggest you installing the reporting role on another server to workaround the problem until you can resolve it, or remove the MP/remove IIS/reboot/re-add IIS and all requirements/re-add the MP/install the RP.

As bad as I hate to say this..... I'd likely remove all the roles, rip out IIS, add IIS back with webdav, BITS, asp, asp.net etc etc. then try again. John Marcum | http://myitforum.com/cs2/blogs/jmarcum |

Hi, Pleaase find SMSWWWROOT.VBS in TEMP folder and run it manually: Cscript smswwwroot.vbs If you got an error like: CScript Error: Can't find script engine "VBScript" for script "C:\Temp\smswwwroot.vbs". Please run following command to re-register VBScript.dll: Regsvr32 C:\Windows\System32\VBscript.dllPlease remember to click Mark as Answer on the post that helps you, and to click Unmark as Answer if a marked post does not actually answer your question. All, I am back at work so I'll take my time today and follow all of the recommendations suggested in this email thread. I'll let you all know the outcome of the work. Thanks again, TeeDarling77

Eric, I followed your instructions but I am getting the error "There is no script engine for file extension ".vbs". Running the VBscript was successfull but I still keep getting the error "error running smswwwroot.vbs". John, I had followed your instructions when I first started getting this error as someone suggested in another forum that I uninstall all the roles including IIS. I did that and I still ended up with the same error I've been getting. Bechir, I have tried one portion of your recommendation before but I haven't tried to install the Reporting role on another server yet. If I get another server I can use, I may try that too. Thanks to all you for your recommendations but I'll keep digging for the solution of this.... TeeDarling77

What is the best way to install the Reporting Point on a different system? Does it mean I have to install and configure the SCCM 2007 again on a new machine and just install the Reporting Point Role only? Any step by step instructions will be appreciated. Thanks, TeeDarling77

You do not have to touch the remote machine manually (except adding permissions for the computer account of the siteserver). Just follow the wizard and create a new reporting point: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb694033.aspx

Torsten, I followed your instructions above by adding the right permissions for the computer account of the siteserver and then followed the MS article "How to Create a Reporting Point" on a separate site system but then again I ended up with the same error below: "Begin Install CMDLINE=/s /m=C:\PROGRA~1\MIF083~1\bin\i386\rep.val Error running smswwwroot.vbs script" I really do not know what actually could be causing this SMS_Reporting_Point to fail. This SCCM 2007 is running on Windows Server 2008 and the SQL database is SQL2005 with SP3. The Windows Server 2008 server has been patched to the current level of needed patches and so is the SQL2005 database. Any more ideas with this error message? --> "Error running smswwwroot.vbs script". Thanks, TeeDarling77

All, I would like to "Thank" each one of you who helped to make this issue work. My problem has been resolved. How? Well, I know that that will be the question people will be asking next. All the recommendations you guys presented here were right. And I did each one of them. What was happening on our network was that there was a GPO that was preventing any .vbs script to run on any machine in our network. After we took care of the GPO, the Repointing Point component was able to install successfully without incident. So my advice to admins having this issue should always look for anything on the network or on the machine that will prevent the .vbs script to run. Also check anywhere in your server registry that changes were made by the GPO to prevent .vbs script from running. Fix it and you should be fine. Thanks again. TeeDarling77
