SCCM OSD -Step-by-step
Hi I am a budding & self-initiated, want to know the details of the followings. i dont have major issues using sccm 2007 for assest, s/w distribution, s/w updates, reports. except OSD. Any Step-by-Step presentation document is available to deploy win xp sp2, all s/w updates & require applications from SCCM Console. (like how to prepare the reference system either by pxe or boot media.) Raj

Hi Raj, I think MS has not yet released a stand-alone deployment documentation about OSD in SCCM 2007. But I think they will in the near future. There are some useful flow charts about OSD in TechNet and you should be able to find most of the answers related to your OSD scenarios. Rgds, Lakmal

Just wanted to extend my personal thanks to you for this. I printed this out and read it over the weekend. What a absolute great document. I learned more in your document than I did trying to decipher the 13,000 seperate documents that Microsoft provides with SCCM. So again I say thank you very much for your hard work. I will most definately benefit from this. Those who are new to SCCM/Task Seqeuncing...this is a MUST READ!!

Good afternoon-Does anyone know if it's possible to Image and Deploy OEM XP SP2 CDs with SCCM?I have an environment that's full of DELL systems with OEM XP CDs and was wondering if it was possible to image those cds and deploy to multiple computers.I know that after Imaging and Sysprepping the Reference system, the product key and other info must be entered. Once logging in, it ptompts to Activate over the internet.Does every image deployed ask for activation as well?Thanks-Andrew
February 19th, 2009 10:46pm
Andrew, IMHO this just wouldn't be possible - OEM versions of XP have a unique license key and so any attempt to clone them would mean that you have to enter a license key for that system, which would sort of defeat the purpose. If your company has any kind of volume license agreement with Microsoft, I would build an image from a Volume License version of XP. Then you will never have to worry about activation again.
