SCCM Installation in one machine and active directory in another machine.
hello, I am completely new to SCCM 2007 . I am trying to install sccm 2007 server in my machine. I have windows server 2008 OS installed in my machine . There is another machine which has windows server 2008 OS which have already active directory installed in it. My question is that can i use that active directory to install sccm 2007 server in my machine. If yes whats the step by step procedure to do that ( I don't know any administrator concepts ). If no..whats the alternative.

no i think you didn't get my point. I want to install System centre configuration manager 2007 sp2. I did some research on the web regarding sccm 2007 installation on windows server 2008 and most of them start with active directory configuration step. So my question is that if active directory is already present in some another server which belong to the same domain ,can i use that active directory for sccm installation in my windows server 2008??

Yes, as long as your other server is joined to the AD domain.I think the steps you are referring to is the configuration of AD schema extensions. This step is not actually required for installation and it can be done at any time. Not doing this will only prevent clients from finding the site via AD until the schema extensions are run and the MP adds itself into AD.Scott Gill SCCM Consultant

no i am not asking about configuration of AD schema. Please look at the step 1 and 2 (This guide assumes that you have first setup Windows Server 2008 and configured it for Active Directory, with DHCP .) for better understanding. I mean to say its necessary to install active directory or we can install sccm without it... http://www.windows-noob.com/forums/index.php?/topic/487-how-can-i-install-sccm-2007-sp1-in-windows-server-2008/

It is required to run SCCM in a domain environment, but it is not required to have AD on your SCCM server. Just join the SCCM server to the domain, and skip all of the AD steps in that guide.Scott Gill SCCM Consultant
