SCCM DP IP Change

Hello Guys,

Due to some network changes, we need to change the IP address for an SCCM DP.

I will just change the IP address on the DP server, but Is there anything I need to be aware of related to or post making the change  ?

Thanks!

No. That would work just fine.

You might need to review your boundaries, but other than that you're be safe...

Great!

So as long as the Hostname of the server stays the same, even if IP changes, it should be fine even its for primary, secondary and any other site system server ?

Yes!

If you have hard coded ip-helpers for PXE boot then you need to change them too :-)

Yes no problem

I"ve done it several times

I've changed/decrease the TTL on the DNS record the day before the actual change so that systems will pick up the change more quickly.

Regards

Johan

Thanks Guys,

Just for the knowledge, how will it affect if the hostname has to be changed instead of the IP.

I believe that would also pick up via the discovery settings ?

Change the hostname of the DP? That's unsupported and will also break DP functionality.

Sorry not for DP, i was asking about any server apart from site server and site system servers.

and for any client machine in the hierarchy

As for DP or any SCCM related server, its good to make a new DP instead of changing the hostname.

Would it be OK to install SCCM DP on an existing DHCP server and vice versa as well ?

I would recommend to install the DP on a different server. Let DHCP run on its own server, separate from SCCM and WDS.  This would keep IIS off of your DHCP server and improve security, while reducing configuration complexity.

Thanks Prajwal,

Your SCCM articles have been informative many times.

Just out of curiosity, what are more concerns which could occur and which is why we should not install DHCP on a server already having the SCCM DP role ?

you can install DP on the server running DHCP, I am not sure if there will be any major issues (I haven't done this so far). When you enable PXE on the DP, WDS is also installed. So your server will have 3 roles - DP, DHCP and WDS.

Alright Prajwal,

Anyone ?

Just need to know for any major issues which could occur or is it just a part of the best practices to not to install.
