SCCM Clients not receiving server information
Hi everyone I have an SCCM Server where 30% of the clients are not getting the client information (site assignment etc) The client seems to be installing ok but the console still says that the client is not installed. If I try to update the site assignment manually or do the auto discover then I get an error message saying that automatic site discovery was unsuccessful. Any ideas? If you need to see any of the logs then please let me know and I'll be happy to post them.Freebie Jeebies | unlimited web hosting | diecast toys | Essex IT support | Free Wordpress Templates

look at locationservices.log,clientlocation.log if the client is able to talk to MP or not and assige to Site. also check if you have given the boundaries correctly for these computers or not Do you have firewall enabled ? //Eswar Koneti @ http://eskonr.wordpress.com/

I have turned off the firewall on the machines that are having trouble and the boundaries are definitely set up correctly. The locationservices.log on the client has the following info repeated in it... <![LOG[Attempting to retrieve SLPs from AD]LOG]!><time="15:37:05.635+-60" date="10-28-2010" component="LocationServices" context="" type="1" thread="2640" file="lsad.cpp:2261"> <![LOG[Failed to resolve 'SMS_SLP' to IP address from WINS]LOG]!><time="15:37:14.760+-60" date="10-28-2010" component="LocationServices" context="" type="3" thread="2640" file="lswins.cpp:324"> <![LOG[LSGetSLP : Failed to resolve SLP from WINS, is it published]LOG]!><time="15:37:14.760+-60" date="10-28-2010" component="LocationServices" context="" type="3" thread="2640" file="lsad.cpp:2277"> <![LOG[LSGetAssignmentSiteCodeForSiteFromSLP : Unable to get the list of SLPs]LOG]!><time="15:37:14.760+-60" date="10-28-2010" component="LocationServices" context="" type="3" thread="2640" file="lsad.cpp:4098"> <![LOG[LSGetAssignmentSiteCodeForSite: Failed to get Assigned Site Code from AD and SLP]LOG]!><time="15:37:14.760+-60" date="10-28-2010" component="LocationServices" context="" type="3" thread="2640" file="lsad.cpp:4236"> <![LOG[Won't send client assignment fallback status point message because last assignment message was sent too recently.]LOG]!><time="15:39:44.802+-60" date="10-28-2010" component="LocationServices" context="" type="1" thread="2560" file="fspclientdeployassign.cpp:184"> <![LOG[Processing pending site assignment.]LOG]!><time="15:39:44.802+-60" date="10-28-2010" component="LocationServices" context="" type="1" thread="2560" file="lsad.cpp:3328"> <![LOG[Assigning to site 'GMS']LOG]!><time="15:39:44.802+-60" date="10-28-2010" component="LocationServices" context="" type="1" thread="2560" file="lsad.cpp:3334"> <![LOG[LSVerifySiteVersion : Verifying Site Version for <GMS>]LOG]!><time="15:39:44.802+-60" date="10-28-2010" component="LocationServices" context="" type="1" thread="2560" file="lsad.cpp:5321"> <![LOG[LSGetSiteVersionFromAD : Failed to retrieve version for the site 'GMS' (0x80004005)]LOG]!><time="15:39:44.817+-60" date="10-28-2010" component="LocationServices" context="" type="3" thread="2560" file="lsad.cpp:5123"> <![LOG[Attempting to retrieve SLPs from AD]LOG]!><time="15:39:44.817+-60" date="10-28-2010" component="LocationServices" context="" type="1" thread="2560" file="lsad.cpp:2261"> <![LOG[Failed to resolve 'SMS_SLP' to IP address from WINS]LOG]!><time="15:39:53.817+-60" date="10-28-2010" component="LocationServices" context="" type="3" thread="2560" file="lswins.cpp:324"> <![LOG[LSGetSLP : Failed to resolve SLP from WINS, is it published]LOG]!><time="15:39:53.817+-60" date="10-28-2010" component="LocationServices" context="" type="3" thread="2560" file="lsad.cpp:2277"> <![LOG[LSGetSiteVersionFromSLP : Unable to get the list of SLPs]LOG]!><time="15:39:53.817+-60" date="10-28-2010" component="LocationServices" context="" type="3" thread="2560" file="lsad.cpp:5194"> <![LOG[LSVerifySiteVersion: Failed to get Site Version from AD and SLP]LOG]!><time="15:39:53.817+-60" date="10-28-2010" component="LocationServices" context="" type="3" thread="2560" file="lsad.cpp:5398"> <![LOG[Won't send a client assignment fallback status point message because the last assignment error matches this one.]LOG]!><time="15:39:53.817+-60" date="10-28-2010" component="LocationServices" context="" type="1" thread="2560" file="fspclientdeployassign.cpp:201"> The clientlocation.log has the following info in it, you can see where I have tried to update the Site assignment manually and where it keeps failing. <![LOG[Getting Assigned Site]LOG]!><time="17:29:36.142+-60" date="10-27-2010" component="ClientLocation" context="" type="1" thread="844" file="smsclientclass.cpp:922"> <![LOG[Getting Assigned Site]LOG]!><time="17:58:14.799+-60" date="10-27-2010" component="ClientLocation" context="" type="1" thread="2820" file="smsclientclass.cpp:922"> <![LOG[Setting Assigned Site]LOG]!><time="17:58:24.892+-60" date="10-27-2010" component="ClientLocation" context="" type="1" thread="2820" file="smsclientclass.cpp:473"> <![LOG[Assigning client to site 'POR']LOG]!><time="17:58:24.892+-60" date="10-27-2010" component="ClientLocation" context="" type="1" thread="2820" file="smsclientclass.cpp:485"> <![LOG[Unable to verify the sitecode 'POR', AD schema is not extended or SLP is not present. The boundaries are... Head office - 10.7.4.0 - 255.255.252.0 Secondary - 10.7.8.0 - 255.255.252.0 and 10.7.44.0 - 255.255.252.0 The IP address of the machine that I'm testing on is 10.7.45.23 it's showing up in the all systems container as having the secondary sites code so it looks like that has been picked up properly but it's just not picking up the site assignment on the PC and the console doesn't show it as having the client on even though it is installed, this is happening on computers in the primary site as well as the secondary.Freebie Jeebies | unlimited web hosting | diecast toys | Essex IT support | Free Wordpress Templates

Hi, Systems are not assigned to Secondary Sites, so even when it's behind one it should be assigned to the primary parent. Several things to check here: - Did you extended the AD schema? If yes did you create the AD System Managment container and set the required permissions? If no did you specify a Server Locator Point - Is site data published in the System Management container - Do you have a Management Point? Is it running healthy, see site status or mpcontrol.log Any more information in the CAS.log Follow me through my blog and Twitter!

I did extend the AD schema and also created a server locator point at the primary site, below is the information that is showing in AD, I've made sure that both machines have full access over the systems management folder as does the service account that we are using for SCCM... SMS-MP-GMS-GB-SCCM-01 - mSSMSManagement Point SMS-MP-POR-GB-POR-1 - mSSMSManagement Point SMS-POR-168232960-168233983 - mSSMSRoamingBoundaryRange SMS-POR-168242176-168243199 - mSSMSRoamingBoundaryRange SMS-Site-GMS - mSSMSSite SMS-Site-POR - mSSMSSite SMS-SLP-GMS-GB-SCCM-01 - mSMSSServerLocatorPoint Below is what I get repeated over and over on the primary site mpcontrol.log but there is no mpcontrol.log on the secondary server, does that mean that the management point hasn't installed properly in the secondary site? Your boundaries are not correct unless your client has the subnet mask of 255.255.252.0 which I highly doubt. Supernets (microsoft terminology not mine, I happen to disagree with it) are not supported for boundaries. Change your boundries to ip ranges and everything will start working. Is the client domain-joined? Is ConfigMgr publishing to AD? 2 side notes: the Windows firewall is not involved at all, because all traffic is ConfigMgr client initiated (so outgoing traffic). Boundaries are also irrelevant (given that you were not using auto assignment). A client can be (manually) assigned to assigned with no boundaries defined at all.

I actually changed them to ranges on the secondary site as I was worried that this might be the issue, they are currently set as two ranges... 10.7.8.0-10.7.11.255 10.7.44.0-10.7.47.255 The clients in that site are still not getting the information from AD. is the previously posted info above correct for what I should be seeing in AD or should there be more than that? Also, what rights do I need to add to System Management container in AD to allow the clients to read it?Freebie Jeebies | unlimited web hosting | diecast toys | Essex IT support | Free Wordpress Templates
