SCCM Clients are moved to different domain.

Hello,

Can you please let me know what could go wrong with below setup or will it still work without any issues.

Domain A: SCCM 2007 SP2 R2

Domain B: SCCM 2012

Machines from Domain B will be moved to Domain A and will kept under a OU which are not part of Domain A SCCM discovery.

and the machines which are moved from Domain B to Domain A will continue to report back to Domain B SCCM 2012 server.

Below is some part of "clientlocation.log" of the moved machine where i tried assigning the local site code in vain.

How do you have your boundaries setup in both CM sites?

Hello Garth,

Sorry for the delay in response.

It looks like there will be overlapping boundaries across both SCCM 2007 and CM12 sites and i am the admin on SCCM 2007 environment.

I did mention to client about the  possibilities of the issue that we could face with overlapping boundaries, but got a negative response from the client and it looks like i have to live with overlapping boundaries.

I referred the below link from MS Technet and the only possible solution in this scenario would be to Hardcode the site code in client installation properties to avoid the misdirection and not to use SITECODE=AUTO

https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/jj822985.aspx

To resolve this i have hardcoded the site code in client push installation properties for both of my primary sites in SCCM 2007

Now the only point of concern for me is when the machines are getting built, the imaging team just run ccmsetup.exe and let the client discover its site code, now if there is newly imaged machine from overlapping boundary queries AD to get the site code but will fail as it sees two entries in System Management container.

and Imaging team does not have knowledge on to which site system belongs to, they are just building the machine and shipping is done by different team, so the imaging team cant run hardcoded client installation commandline to install the client.

Now i would require a help in directing the newly imaged machine to appropriate site even if they belongs to overlapping boundaries.

Please advise.

As long as you have overlapping boundaries you are foobar, and there is nothing that you can do about it until you remove the overlapping boundaries.

Agreed,

I will try my best to convince the client to remove the overlapping boundary, however as a backup solution i am thinking about a script which can identify the site code based on the boundaries and then call appropriate hardcoded client installation command line to install SCCM client.

any reference would be helpful.

Thank You
