SCCM Auto Uninstall Unused Applications
Hi, Is it possible to use SCCM to automatically uninstall software which the user has not ran in a certain amount of time (example. 3 months). I recently saw a different product which will monitor the usage and try to uninstall any software which is not used in a certain period of time, however it will prompt the users first with a message before it is uninstalled, giving the user the option to delay the removal another month or so. Is there a way SCCM can be configured to do this? Thanks - MarkMark

This isn't built-in functionality, but you should be able to build it using a set of collections based on software metering data and first advertises the "prompt" to users and then advertises the uninstall string. The prompt part would require some custom scripting or coding, but you could still get there. The uninstall string could be done in a variety of ways also including pulling it from the registry. It would take a little know-how and some time and testing, but it could be done. As I said, it's certainly not just a check-box to enable the feature though.Jason | http://myitforum.com/myitforumwp/members/jasonsandys/ | Twitter @JasonSandys

I do this using Self Service from SCCM expert. It's a third party add-on that has this feature built-in. John Marcum | http://myitforum.com/cs2/blogs/jmarcum/|

Why not ...(still I don't have much experience in it ;)) - To monitor software usage, you can use 'Software Metering' feature of SCCM...for this you need to enable/add metering rule..see http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb633043.aspx - Create package with uninstall program (again depends upon which software you wanna uninstall.....uninstall package may contain just script/batch file ...etc) - Create a collection for those PC's. (I'm not sure if you can create dynamic collection based on software metering rule) - Create a advertisement with uninstall program and advertise it on collection created above.. Regards, Sachin
