SCCM Advanced client Install - Unable to download Policy
I have 2-3 Windows XP SP3 Clients tht will not fully install the SCCM Advanced Client. My Setup is SCCM SP2 Using Manual install because client push and automation failed. Running the ccmsetup.exe with switches SMSSITECODE=AUTO and FSP=<my
server>.monitor.com. worked on hundres of other clients.
SCCM console has the following message on the clients: The client failed to download policy. The data transfer service returned "Error downloading data." (-2147024894). message id 10803. Other logs reveal: "Software distribution
settings not in WMI"
Client loads to the point of only two actions appearing in the actions tab --- Machine Policy Retrevial & Evaluation cycle and User policy retrevial & Evaluation Cycle.
Systems are connected to a Working Distribution point on my corperate network via a wired connection on the local Domain Controller. I only have one Management point for 1500 clients.
This what I have done so far on these clients:
1. Uninstalled the client via ccmclean (sms 2003) utility 1st
a. installed sccm client via ccmsetup.exe on server. - no go
2. Rebuilt WMI repository: rename system32\wbem\repository folder restart wmi and reboot
a. Uninstalled sccm client with /uninstall - reboot: no go
b. reinstalled ccmsetup.exe from server with switches - no go
3. uninstalled /uninstall.
a. cleaned registry and system32 directories of all sms client files and entries.-
b.reinstall with ccmsetup from the local system. copied install directory to c:\ and ran it from there. - no go
4. Unistalled again --- cleaned system --- ran the following to repair WMI from Microsoft and reinstall ccmsetup.http://blogs.technet.com/b/configmgrteam/archive/2009/05/08/wmi-troubleshooting-tips.aspx
still not Registering the Software distribution settings to WMI and only 2 actions appear.
Arg @#$% HELP!!!! Any other ideas other than rebuilding the systems. They have sensitve software on them athat would be hard to recreate.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi Gary,
In our case, we had some issues with domain authentication. Check the Application and System logs or try to re-join the troubled computers into the domain.
