SCCM 2012 SP1 client not working on Primary Site server

Hi,

I'm trying to get the SCCM 2012 SP1 (no CU) client installed and working on our Primary Site server, but I'm not meeting with success.  We're new to SCCM here, so excuse me if the answer or troubleshooting steps are obvious...

----------------------------------------

What I've noticed:

When looking at Devices in the console, the Primary Site server is showing as "No" in the Client column (the other servers participating in our SCCM hierarchy are showing "Yes" - as expected).

When looking at the (Control Panel) Configuration Manager Properties on the Primary Site server, everything looks OK except that the Actions tab only shows "Machine Policy Retrieval & Evaluation Cycle" and "User Policy Retrieval & Evaluation Cycle".

Our setup:

We're a single forest/domain shop with an initial setup of SCCM 2012 that I've upgraded to SP1.

We don't have a CAS, we're only using a Primary Site.  We have a dedicated physical box for our Primary Site (and Management Point) and a dedicated physical box for our SQL database.  Our Distribution Points and Software Update Points are hosted on dedicated virtual boxes.

Tried:

Manual push of client from console.

Installing from Command Prompt on Primary Site server itself  (CCMSetup.exe /MP:xxxxxxxxxxx.tdsb.on.ca SMSSITECODE=xxx).

----------------------------------------

So, what should I be trying or looking at for help.  I've tried Google, but am no further ahead...

Thanks for any help/advice,
Joe.

How have you configured the boundaries for the clients?  Do the clients reside in the boundaries? Is the site server published in AD? Is name resolution working between the client and site server using FQDN and netbios? Is the Windows Firewall allowing comms from the site server to the client?

Check those initially and update here with your response for each.

In this case, the client that I'm having a problem with is the Primary Site server itself.  Most other client installs were handled by Group Policy (mainly for workstations) or client pushes (mainly for servers).  (FYI - We have over 50K devices discovered of which close to 500 are servers - most client installs have gone as expected.)

The boundaries were largely configured by AD discovery.
The Primary Site server does reside within a boundary (as do the other SCCM servers - they are all in the same subnet/boundary - the client has been successfully installed and working on the other SCCM servers).
The site server is published in AD.
Name resolution between the client and Primary Site server (which are one and the same) works.
The Windows firewall is disabled for Domain networks on the Primary Site server (which is also the client).

Does that shed any light???

Was this ever resolved?

I have a similar problem.  The client installs on the PS MP but no actions show up, the site is not assigned.  When I assigned the site I am given an error.

Clients deploy and operate as expected to all other servers.

Most servers, including the 2012 R2 PS MP server, were once 2007 clients.  I uninstalled the old client prior to the 2012 client install.

This was resolved, but I don't know what the resolution was.

Since noticing the problem initially, we've upgraded to R2 with CU4.  This may have been what triggered the resolution...

Other than that ... I can't offer much more.

Okay?  Torsten should not propose "I forgot" as an answer.

This was not related to "I don't know", but " we've upgraded to R2 with CU4."

Understood.  R2 with the latest UR didn't fix it for me sadly.
