SCCM 2012 SP1 - SRS Role stopped working and wont re-install

Help! I've exhausted all options:

SRV1 = SCCM 2012 SP1 on WS 2008 R2 SP1

SRV2 = SQL 2008 R2 SP2 (CU5) & SSRS on WS 2008 R2 SP1

Not sure how long its been going on - though I had noticed that for a while the SSRS service was not automatically starting after rebooting SRV2.

Yesterday, I went to pull up a report on Power Management and Software version installed. when I went to HTTP://SRV2/Reports I saw the ConfigMgr_XXX folder - but no reports only a Data Source GUID.

When I connected to SCCM - no reports were visible in the Monitoring -> reports tree. The report options dialog was blank, but SRV2 was listed in the dropdown box. However no matter how often I chose it - it was blank the next time I looked.

I Removed the role and monitored its removal then reinstalled it - but only to get : 1014,1075,4951 and eventually 1016. It then repeats this every 60 minutes

I cannot find the 2 log files mentioned in Event 4951anywhere to monitor in CMTrace (srsrpSetup.log and srsrp.msi.log) to find what the issue is

I have even removed the Reports DB and reconfigured Reporting Service to recreate the DB. - This goes fine and the database is created. I can get to it using http://SRV2/Reports - but no CM12 reports are visible due to the role failing to install

I have tried several accounts when installing and none work - (Domain Admin, Domain User, SQL Admin - all with CM roles )

I am at a loss - don't really want to strip out SCCM as everything else is working

srsrp.log can be found on the reporting services point. Also examine srsrpsetup.log

I'm still trying to find them - no luck so far!

I've searched both servers and no sign of these log files...

Finally found the logs! (They are on Drive D:!!)

Here is the srsrpsetup.log

The last 5 lines seem to be the problem!

Interestingly, it tries to delete D:\SMS_SRSRP\  - but installs it to the C:

OK I finally got the role installed but it was a bit of a workaround:

1) attempt to install the role as normal - this creates the C:\SMS_SRSRP\ Directory with all the reports

2) uninstall the RSP in SCCM -

3) Before re-insatlling the role, copy the C:\SMS_SRSRP\ folder to your clipboard (CTRL+C) and open the D: drive

4) open the SRSRPSetup.log file in CMTrace

5) reinstall the role in SCCM

6) monitor the log file - as soon as its starts - paste the SMS_SRSRP folder into the root of D:\

All being well  and you were quick enough! - the MSI should now find the DLL files and correctly register them

The bigger issue is why it is doing this in the first place? (IE install the role to the C: but try and register the DLL as if its on D:?

Thanks, had the same issue on mine after a failed install of the role and this fixed it.  The MSI kept installing SMS_SRSRP folder on C: drive and looking for DLL on another drive.

I can nottttt believe this was the fix. I wasted 2 days on this problem. I can't even count how many times I tried uninstalling and reinstalling the services component. I don't know how more people haven't encountered this.

Mine kept dropping the dlls on the H drive but was trying to run them from E...sure enough this fixed it but mannnnnn

Thank you!

What an odd issue. My original SCCM installation was on D, not sure why it was messing around on C. So now that I have done this and the component seems to be healthy, could I delete the SMS_SRSRP directory from C?

Could you guys log this as a DCR on Connect?

This will give the PG visibility if it is a bug and go a long way towards helping others.

Still helpful today :)

I ran into the similar issue and the instruction above helped me resolve the Reporting Point installation.

In my case, the Reporting Point was targeted to install on remote server running SQL and it kept running the install on K:\ of remote sql box but the SMS_SRSRP folder was being deleted even after I copied from I:\ (installed originally) so instead for waiting for the reinstallation to happen in 60 mins, I just went ahead and restarted the Site Component Manager Service on PS, monitored the SRSPSetup.log  and copied the folder again - voila the role was installed !

I had a very similar issue while setting up a reporting server in azure. For some reason, the SMS_SRSRP folder was going to the D: drive, which is a temporary drive in azure. After some troubleshooting, your method was the only way I got it to install.

I had the same problem...., in a reinstalled primary site, the installation goes to "C:\program files" and the configuration tries to use "D:\Program Files", and obviously fail.

After some investigation, i review the registry, in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\SMS\SRSRP, and find:

"InstallDir"="C:\\Program Files\\SMS_SRSRP\\"

I change the entry to:

"InstallDir"="D:\\Program Files\\SMS_SRSRP\\"

And all Works correctly.

Hope it help
