In a primary site can you install the state migration point role on a DP that is not a MP?

Yes you can.

Thanks Henrik, can you please confirm this will not install the MP role as part of the State migration point role install. 

If you only choose to install a state migration Point it will only install a state migration Point and nothing else.

Seeing as how you are seeking reassurance, I will second Henrik's statement.

Is there a reason you are specifically asking (twice)?

I couldn't find any official documentation that says you can install the role on a DP and just wanted to be 100% sure.  I'm installing into a production environment and  unfortunately don't have access to a test environment.  All done now, up and running.  Thanks you both very much for the answer and reassurance.

Sure you do, you are just using for production. Why not grab a desktop and install Windows 8 or Server 2008R2/2012 and use Hyper-V? Or use the free Hyper-V server?
