SCCM 2012 R2 client not reporting to MP

Hi

I'm setting up our first SCCM server in our company and I'm a little stuck with the communication between the client and the MP.

I've got the client deploying using a GPO and it's successfully installing. The console shows Yes under the Client column, its in the correct Site and it's shown as Active. I've also approved the client. I've removed our standard Symantec EPP client from the client to rule out interference.

It was decided for communication to be by HTTP rather than HTTPS.

I've checked the http://<FQDN>/SMS_MP/.sms_aut?mplist and http://<FQDN>/SMS_MP/.sms_aut?mpcert and both are accessible from the client.

Selecting the client under Device in the console, the AD Site name and Management Point is correct, and the the Policy Request gets updated with the correct date and time. However, the Heartbeat DDR, Hardware Scan and Software Scan are all blank, even though they're turned on in the Default Client Settings (there aren't any Custom Client Settings).

On the client, within the components tab of the Config Manager properties, the Hardware Inventory and Software Inventory are enabled (along with a number of others). However it doesn't appear to be reporting the information back to the MP.

It's coming up to about an hour and 30 minutes. Still nothing reported.

That's normal for two reasons: newly installed clients don't instantly send this info and the information displayed in the console is summarized meaning that it's not real-time. I think the summarization period for this specific console info is every 4 hours and it's not configurable (at least not in a supported way).

To get a real-time view for a specific client, check the properties of the resource in the console (specifically the Agent Name and Agent Time fields show these) and resource explorer for the hardware scan. I don't remember where the software inventory scan time is at, but by default software inventory is not configured to collect anything. Make sure you understand what software inventory is though as it does *not* collect information about installed software; it collects information about files. If you want installed software, then hardware inventory will get this for you by default (based on Add/Remove programs).

Hi

I decided to leave the client running over night.

I've just checked and the state in the console hasn't changed. The hardware is being reported back as the Hardware - General reports are presenting it.

At the moment the Heartbeat DDR and Hardware Scan on the devices Client Activity isn't updating.

The summarization could be longer than 4 hours. The best way to check these are the ways I've mentioned and *not* client activity.
