SCCM 2012 R2 MP 100% cpu

Hi all,

i am in the need of some help.

I have 2 SCCM 2012 R2 CU4 Management points. Both are Vmware Vsphere 5.5 virtual machines.

At some point the servers, at random, show 100% cpu usage and the servers have to be rebooted to function properly again. After the reboot there are no significant indications what caused the cpu usage. The eventviewer shows no errors. In SCCM logging there are no clear signs.

Others site systems do not show these symptoms.

I already ran the windowsupdatediagnostic.diagcab and fixed the issues that were found. But the problem still exists.

Someone have a great idea?

Which process is using the CPU then?

I dont know. There is no option to log on to the server because it becomes inresponsive. Therefore i cannot check which service is causing this issue.

From a vmware console i can see that vmware tools also stops running.

Without knowing what process is using the CPU, it would be complete speculation.

I'd suggest logging on to the console session through VMware and wait patiently for the system to process the logon.

A few ideas to get started would be to consider what security software / anti-virus software you're using, is it configured optimally for ConfigMgr MP role, is it performing scheduled scans.

How many clients in your environment are reporting to the MP's, are the MP's correctly resourced to handle the client load.

Is there any third party software integrated into ConfigMgr that could be causing sudden policy requests for all clients.

review your client settings to determine how often policy refreshes, hardware inventory runs, software inventory etc... increase the random interval to reduce spikes in client traffic.
