SCCM 2012 OSD Task Sequence Failed Error: 80070002

I have a task sequence that fails while downloading the WIM. It starts downloading, gets to a certain percentage then starts over, it does this a couple times before failing with error 80070002.

ReadDataAndWriteToFile() failed with 0x80072ee2 when downloading 16% of file C:\_SMSTaskSequence\Packages\PRK00025\ENx64W7.wim

ReadDataAndWriteToFile() failed with 0x80072ee2 when downloading 39% of file C:\_SMSTaskSequence\Packages\PRK00025\ENx64W7.wim

Here's the really strange part, If I F8 and ping the server, it replies and the download continues. The ping is losing packets which I suspect is why the download is failing. I plug into the same port with a working laptop and I don't lose packets. I tried updating the drivers in the Boot WIM to the most current version, older versions, same result. I know it's not Network Access Account since the download starts (and finishes as long as I'm pinging). Any ideas?

Thanks!

Out of interest did you ever get a definitive resolution to this issue. I've got the exact same issue with the same Intel 82579 drivers. Intermittent pings, eventually falls over to SMB download of wim file after 3 attempts over http. Once the Windows 7 drivers are installed and the WinPE4.0 part is done with there are no issues and pings to the server are pretty rock solid. I've used the stock boot image, and one with intel windows 8 drivers, and the Dell WinPE4 drivers, al of which seem to have the same issues.

I've also got a software updates deployment in the task sequence, and I'll be testing to see what happens if I take it out, but as I write this I'm in the middle of a test OSD install again...

No definitve answer, I have a support call going with MS.

I disabled our software updates and everything has been completeing normally for known PCs. I switched one of the Software Updates back on and it fails.

Hi Derryn-

Im experiencing the same issue with 2012 R2 on Dell Latitude 2120 netbooks.  Was MS Support able to give you a solution to this besides taking Software Updates out?

Thanks-

Have you tried setting the following settings in the beginning of your task sequence?

  • SMSTSDownloadRetryCount = 5
  • SMSTSDownloadRetryDelay = 15

I'm in this exact same boat but with all of our HP 6005 Pro desktops (Broadcom Netextreme Gigabit ethernet). I set the variable to five retries and it just fails five times. Clearly not a network issue since it only happens with these models. Not a network access acct or permission issue because the connections all are made initially and the wim download begins. I've disabled the winPE firewall. No firewall on the SCCM server/DP. The only a.v. on the server is the SCEP client that SCCM put there during installation.

I'm seeing the same issue with Latitute 2120 netbooks since upgrading to SCCM2012r2 CU5.

A shame as otherwise all good with the upgrade to r2.

I've tried the SMSTSDownloadretryCount as suggested by Johan but still does it.

pseudoyams did you find and solution to this issue on latitude 2120's?

I would love to hear some more suggestions or hear of  anybody that has managed to work round this issue.

Cheers

By chance do you have the options "Copy the content in this package to a package share on distribution point" on the Data Access tab on the WIM & "Access content directly from the distribution point" on the options tab on the Apply Operating Systems enabled?
