SCCM 2012 Licensing

Hi,

Here is info on my environment and want to deploy SCCM 2012 for the first time. Even MS reseller is not able to provide me a definite answer on the licensing requirements. I am not very familiar with MS licensing model and it is confusing.

30 windows desktop workstations, 6 VMware Vms running Windows server 2008 and 2 physical servers Windows Server 2008.

My questions:

If I get 38 Microsoft System Center Configuration Manager Client ML licenses would that be enough ? or Do I have to buy license to mange the 8 servers separately?  If I have to buy license separately to manage servers, do I buy 6 Microsoft System Center Standard Edition?

I would really appreciate your help on this.

Thanks,

You are not going to get a definitive answer here either. Your licensing expert should be able to answer this. But you need 30 ws lic and generally 2 server lics as VMs are generally covered by the server lics.

With so few computers are you sure that you want to install CM12? What are you hoping to gain by using it?

Thanks Garth. I had asked my PM the same question. Request was put in by my predecessor.  Therefore, they had put it in the budget which was approved recently. From what I understand he wanted to deploy Endpoint Protection and also for deploying third party applications update.
