SCCM 2012 Hardware and Software Inventory

Hi,

Can any one explain how hardware and software inventory schedule on SCCM 2012 works, lets say if i configure hardware/software inventory to run on every day 12:00 AM is that mean only sccm client online on that time will report it's hardware or software inventory status. Please clarify.

Using a fixed schedule is not the best idea as all clients that are online will send inventory at the same time; they will hit the server all at once.
A client will send missed schedules as soon as it comes back online again.

I will echo what Torsten says. Never run inventory at a schedule time.

I will also add to this that you should NOT turn on Software Inventory. http://be.enhansoft.com/post/2013/10/03/Slow-Software-Inventory-Cycle-in-SCCM-2012.aspx

Currently our environment scheduled to run hw/sw inventory on every day at 12:00 a.m. We enabled software inventory to pull the below software information for audit, however recently we found some of the machines installed with particular application not showing its inventoried data. Any idea what could be the reason why machines are not reporting their inventory.

product name,  installed path, manufacturer, version etc

Again it is NEVER recommend to schedule you inventory at the same time for every client. You should always use a simple schedule.

I never recommend enabling software inventory ever.

Is your problem with Hardware or Software Inventory?

Follow this blog for a problem client, does the inventory make it to your site server?

Just came across this post...

The best practice from what I've read in various sources is the following:

For Workstations, use "simple schedule". Simple schedule ensures that your PCs will not all start at the same time (randomizing start times). This minimizes impact on the site server as someone already mentioned above. The other recommendation is to never make your SW inventory run more than once a week as it is resource intensive on the clients.

For Servers, use "custom schedule". This schedule allows you to cherry pick the exact time/dates to start the inventory. That is exactly what you want as this can be scheduled when the server is not on heavy demand.

Again, all recommendations I've seen is to never set it for more that once a week since it is resource intensive.

Ozzy
