SCCM 2012 Hardware/Virtual Considerations-Requirements

Keep in mind that disks are not only about space, but also about performance. You shouldn't put OS, SCCM or SQL DBs on SATA drives.

For SQL DB drive I would say You will need not more than 30 GBs for 500 clients.

For distribution point - it depends how many images, updates, drivers, applications You will have. I would say that 500 GBs are enough.

It is also beneficial if the server is virtual, You can extend disks later.

As Peteris point Disk is not about space it is about performance, particularly in a VM.

Your environment is so small I would follow the KISS principal.

  • C:\ 100 GB - OS only.
  • D:\ Everything else at least 500GB with the idea that it will expand in the future.
  • Install Windows 2012 R2
  • Keep SQL Local
  • Install SQL 2012 or 2014
  • Install are roles on this server
  • Install WSUS using the local SQL and not WID.

We have WSUS outside in another server, no problem right ?

It depends, Are you planning to use it for CM12? If so then it is recommend to start with a clean WSUS, and no it can't be shared with anything else.

Thank you all. Very helpful.

Hello, Do you think the following hardware requirements are enough to handle 500 clients ?

4 cores (Intel Xeon 5140 or comparable CPU)
16 GB of RAM
Disk 1: 150GB
Disk 2: 150GB for SQL DB
Disk 3: 500 for Distribution Point

One server for SQL 2008 SP4 or SQL 2008 R2, SSRS, SCCM and DP ?

I am assuming as a VM would be ok ?

Thanks for you

Keep SQL local to Cm12.

Install SQL 2014 or 2012.

Your drive space is a bit lite.

vm is fine

Ohh, i thought SQL2012 was not compatible yet with SCCM2012

Any recommendations for drive space ?

Thanks

SQL Server 2012 is supported by System Center 2012 R2 Configuration Manager.

See this: https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/gg682077.aspx#BKMK_SupConfigSQLDBconfig

For the drive space, it depends on your environment, each Configuration Manager environment is different. You might want to follow the official requirements to be on the safe side:
