SCCM 2012 & Server 2012 Dedupe

Ive come across a problem recently with SCCM2012 on a server using Win2012 Dedupe.

We have been using the dedupe functionality & found huge savings, however have since had problems crop up with importing drivers for OSD.
After some digging around, we found a forum post saying that SCCM doesn't support reparse points which are used by Server 2012 Dedupe.

Ive been unable to track down any more concrete information about this so wondering if anyone had more information about this lack of support & what it affects within SCCM2012? E.g. is it only driver imports affected (in which case we can just exclude the drivers folder from dedupe), or should other folders (or the entire content volume) not be deduped.
Also, would this still apply if hosting source files on a remote file share that is using dedupe?

Cheers!

Hi,

What error message did you get when imported the driver to boot image? Can it be imported successfully if you exclude the driver folder from deduplication?

I suggest you investigate the log file Dism.log first.

Hi, NoDowt.

As of this time, Configuration Manager 2012 is not compatible with the data deduplication functionality added in Windows Server 2012. I would recommend disabling deduplication for the entire content drive to go back into a supported state.

There's an existing Connect item on this that you can vote on: https://connect.microsoft.com/ConfigurationManagervnext/feedback/details/797620/file-server-data-deduplication-and-drivers

I'm unable to browse that link, I get a "page not found or you don't have permissions" error.
Checking through the open items on the feedback page for ConfigMgrVNetxt i couldn't see it either.

Are there any other known issues outside of the driver import funtionality?

At this stage we've not had any further problems since excluding the drivers source folder from deduplication, and we're currently running at around 60% data reduction. I'd really prefer to keep the rest of the drive enabled for deduplication if possible. Would definitely love to see this functionally officially supported in the near future.

Cheers
Jason

Does anyone know if the recent cumulative updates have fixed this problem? Is there any other workaround?

Yes, I know this is an old post, but Im trying to clean them up. Did you solve this problem, if so what was the solution? This blog post will help you find the right connect page.
