SCCM 2007 vs. SCE 2010
I'm at a cross roads here with my present situation and I'm looking for feedback, etc. on what would benefit me the most. I didn't see a neutral unbiased forum that I could post this since it's dealing with 2 versions of the same product and I see separate forums for both products, so I'll post this in both forums for the sake of getting a true UNBIASED response. Here we go...back when SCE 2007 was out and I was evaluating the product along side SCCM 2007 I ended up choosing SCCM 2007 for 2 reasons: 1. We had SMS 2003/WSUS 3.0 and I was looking for a replacement upgrade which naturally SCCM 2007/WSUS 3.0 is. 2. SCE 2007 was too limited in regards to server count that it could support for our mid-size environment with support for only 30 servers. Now, with SCE 2010 all that has changed since it now supports up to 50 servers and 500 clients which fits well with my current environment. I've already purchased the SCCM 2007 licenses but haven't implemented it yet. Since SCCM 2007 is one full product for one specific area and SCE 2010 offers 3 products bundled offering the majority of the same things that SCCM 2007 provides plus Ops Mgr and VMM I'm wanting to know...should I stay with what I have or purchase SCE 2010. I'm thinking so far with the current research I've done that I would benefit more in my environment with SCE 2010 vs. SCCM 2007...your thoughts?

Thanks for all responses so far and here is a little more info about my environment: My primary needs are Patch Management and Software Deployment. OS Deployment is nice but not a must have...I will be deploying Windows 7 probably some time next year but originally when I looked to purchase SCCM 2007 was simply to replace our existing SMS 2003 setup. I'm the only admin working and managing this environment. I have close to 50 servers and about 125 end-users with one branch office having about 12 out of the 125 total. It's basically a mid-sized environment where I'm managing a variety of different enterprise applications, servers, desktops, SAN, backups, Exchange, etc. I've never used SCCM 2007 so from the perspective that SCCM 2007 admins aren't cheap...I would take that as a plus for me to have that knowledge :-) I've done some extensive reading into the implementation and installation of SCCM 2007 using WSUS 3.0 for patch management integration so I feel comfortable implementing it and using it and having the skills to handle it...but I also feel with everything else going on...it would be nice to have a much simpler setup that gives me what I need plus some extras from the Ops Mgr side that would be a plus. I agree with John that the only negative with going with SCE 2010 would be losing out on my SCCM 2007 licenses that I've already purchased. If going with SCE 2010 is a far better solution overall for what I would get with it then maybe that's not such a bad thing. We're a non-profit and have great pricing so losing out on this to gain what SCE 2010 could give me is not a major concern at this time. I have a few more questions such as: 1. Is WSUS built-into SCE 2010? From what I've gathered so far it uses Microsoft Update's website as it's source rather than a more complex WSUS setup as SCCM 2007 requires...is that correct? 2. Does SCE 2010 provide Remote Desktop functionality? I believe SCCM 2007 does only as an add-on module but I can't be for sure...it's been a while since I've researched this. 3. Does Virtual Machine Manager in SCE 2010 support VMware or just Hyper-V environments?
