SCCM 2007 server unresponsive after config change
Hi there On a few occassions now I've had a problem where our SCCM server appears to grind to a halt. The first symptom I normally notice is that collections fail to populate. If I create a new collection then update collection membership and refresh, it just sits there indefinitely with the hour glass and never popluates. I can query the database fine as if I create a new query with the same statement as the collection membership rules this populates fine. Further investigation into software dist or updates etc reveals nothing is happening. Now I think this may be occurring after I've made changes to the site configuration. The last time this happened I'd changed the setting for disabling all notifications for Software Updates. I've come into work this morning to find the site unresponsive again and yesterday I made a slight change to our Software Inventory schedule (starting it 1hr earlier). This could just be coincidental though I suppose. When this has happened previously I've (perhaps foolishly) rebooted the server as I've had an urgent requirement to do something. This has resolved the problem but as I've seen it a few times now I'd like to get to the bottom of it. The only log that is updating on the site server currently is sitecomp.log which is polling hourly. There are no errors being generated in the log: "Waiting for changes to the "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Configuration Manager\inboxes\sitectrl.box" or "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Configuration Manager\inboxes\sitecomp.box" directories, servers will be polled in 1 hour..." We have a single site infrastructure. I'm a bit confused as to what could be causing this and how I can remedy it without just rebooting. Any help greatly appreciated. Thanks

Given the info, it seems like a server related problem indeed. However, where are you opening the admin console from? Locally on the server or remote from another machine? If it's remotely, there may be a admin console communication problem. In both cases you could check smsprov.log in <installpath>\logs of the server. Also, did you install any plugins/extensions to the admin console/server? RegardsCheck out my blog at www.sylvari.org
