SCCM 2007 manual client installation troubles
We have been using SCCM 2007 for over a year and in the last week we have been having problems doing a manual installation of the client. When running ccmsetup using an AD account that has local administrator rights on a PC (Windows 7 SP1 64 bit), the installation runs for a couple of seconds then stops. The last few lines of ccmsetup.log are: Successfully ran BITS check. ccmsetup 26/03/2012 14:17:19 1984 (0x07C0) Failed to successfully complete HTTP request. (StatusCode at WinHttpQueryHeaders: 500) ccmsetup 26/03/2012 14:17:19 1984 (0x07C0) A Fallback Status Point has not been specified. Message with STATEID='308' wil not be sent. ccmsetup 26/03/2012 14:17:19 1984 (0x07C0) Someone else suggested it was a problem with how the MP is set up but: I have checked all http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc431377.aspxThe WebDav authoring rule was already set correctly on the MPAll the checks passed on the Management Point Troubleshooter in the ConfigMgr toolkit The installation does run correctly when logged on as the local administrator account on the PC but not as a normal accout that has administrator rights, even when choosing to 'run as administrator'

Are you starting a command prompt as administator and running the ccmsetup.exe commandline? StatusCode at WinHttpQueryHeaders: 500 is often an internal IIS error, but you say that other installations run just fine. What is the commandline and can you post part of the ccmsetup.log file. I know you have aldready posted some, but I would like to see a few moe lines.Kent Agerlund | My blogs: blog.coretech.dk/kea and SCUG.dk/ | Twitter: @Agerlund | Linkedin: Kent Agerlund

Have you verified the health of your MP? Based on the log above, ccmsetup is attempting to contact the MP because receiving an HHTP error code of 500 which means the web site is "broken".Jason | http://blog.configmgrftw.com | Twitter @JasonSandys

Ive checked through all the IIS + webdav settings and all seems to be fine. Other clients can communicate with the MP to recieve policy etc. We do have some problems with inventory which may be related - I am about to start another thread about that now. Strangely we have now found that the installation works if it is run as the local administrator (rather than a domain account with local admin rights which fails)

What else would you suggest to check to verify the health of the MP?

Is it possible that you have a security policy being applied to the machines (or "baked in" to your image) that is interfering? Check the User Account Control settings in policy.John DeVito

Here is a great article to verify your MP is working. Most of the time a failed MP is due to webdav not working properly. http://exchangeengine.wordpress.com/2009/06/10/how-to-check-management-point-is-working-fine-in-sccm-2007/

hmm, what happens when you attempt to access <servername>\ccm_client under both the local admin and domain user with local admin right contexts?

Thanks for everyone's help, This seems to have been caused by permissions issues stopping the client files being downloaded with BITS.
