SCCM 2007 Server on VM
I am wondering if there are any known issues in running SCCM 2007 on VM? I am looking at possibly sharing an 8 core server with 8GB of RAM, running SCOM and SCCM in VM's. The SQL db's will reside on a separate SQL custer, and will have distribution servers in remote office locations this VM will act as the central management. Any and all opinons and recommendations appreciated. Thanks

We absolutely support running the entire SCCM site in Microsoft Virtual Server 2005 R2. We don't support any other virtual technology, not even Virtual PC. However, I do all my work in Microsoft Virtual PC 2007, and it works fine. I know of other customers using VMWare, but have also heard of some running VMWare that have experienced weird, inconsistent issues.

Hyper-V is only supported on Windows Server 2008, which Configuration Manager RTM does not support yet. Our SP1 release of Configuration Manager will support Windows Server 2008, and thus Hyper-V.

Hi Wally, SP1 is here but supportability list still shows VS 2005 R2 (SP1) only. Is Hyper-V supported? When can we expect an official announcement about it? Thank you, -Alex

To load WinPE in a Hyper-V VM you need to add a legacy network adapter to the VM instead of a synthetic NIC.
