SCCM 2007 R3 supported Agent versions?
Our company is running SCCM 2007 (build 4.00.6221.1000) and would like to get to R3 (build 4.00.6487.2157). We have read about applying SCCM 2007 SP2, the KB977384 hotfix and then installing R3. Our current Agent version on the workstations is also 4.00.6221.1000. The Agent is being installed using a VB script, so we can control the Agent’s version. Our question is: if we choose NOT to upgrade the Agent on the workstations, would our PCs still work correctly after the R3 upgrade? Thanks in advance.

short answer: yes; with the exact capabilities you have now. Longer answer... There are some fixes to the client agent itself, and some inventory, like the power management inventory piece of R3, which simply won't be able to be reported by your SP1 clients, even though your server is at SP2 + R3, and may be asking your clients for that information. Just be aware of that, and if management comes to you and asks "but I thought R3 would mean we get X, Y and Z?" you can tell them, sure, it WOULD, if you let me finish deploying the client.Standardize. Just a comment to the reply from Sherry - please plan to upgrade the clients asap. SP2 contains several hotfixes and other nice features like improved client policy management.Kent Agerlund | My blogs: http://blog.coretech.dk/author/kea/ and http://scug.dk/ | Twitter @Agerlund | Linkedin: /kentagerlund
