SCCM 2007 R3 and Windows 8
We are currently running SCCM 2007 R3 in native mode. Everything is working great (so far). We are currently only collecting information with regards to software and hardware inventory. We have a couple of Windows 8 machines in our environment and I haven't really been able to find and useful information on whether the agent would install on Windows 8. Does anyone know if this will cause an issue on these machines?

First, it's totally not supported -- not sure if it ever will be with 2012 in the picture but that's for Microsoft to decide and not me. In my own labs and the labs of others, everything works fine except for OSD - and of course they aren't publishing Win8 updates to the WSUS catalog yet so no real way to test Software Updates for the OS although they should work for apps and other items that Software Updates is applicable to.Jason | http://blog.configmgrftw.com | Twitter @JasonSandys

Niall blogged on deploying Win 8 via CM12. Of course like Jason said, it's totally unsupported. I'd even go a step further than that and wager that if you have Windows 8 machines in a production enterprise environment you have done so against the license agreement of the Win 8 preview. I beleive the general statement from SCCM team is they will have suppport for a new OS around 90 days of its release. John Marcum | http://myitforum.com/cs2/blogs/jmarcum/|

Thank you for the quick responses. We have two Windows 8 machines in our environment but they for testing purposes only and are not used on a daily basis. I was just wondering if the agent would have any affect. Most of the talk has been with SCCM 2012 but we will not upgrade to that until it is released.

Side note: there is no upgrade path to 2012; it is a new install and side-by-side migration only. Just want to be very clear for you or anyone else that may read this thread.Jason | http://blog.configmgrftw.com | Twitter @JasonSandys
