SCCM 2007 R3 Integration with ACT Connector. Unable to connect due to Database not being updated in ACT 5.6
Hello All! I have a problem, we are doing W7 deployment and application compatibility testing. I have setup a brand new ACT 5.6 Server on W7, I created a new database for ACT, I then installed the ACT Connector on the SCCM server. I have the actconfig.vbs script thats been shown in other posts. The script does not error out but I do not see any updates to the database. I have tried running the actconfig.vbs script from both ACT server as well as SCCM. The ACT 5.6 server is all on 1 host running SQL 2k8 Express, the SCCM services and DB are on another server running full SQL2k8. I don't understand why its not updating the database in ACT. The error comes up when i go to: Application Compatibility Toolkit Server in ConfigMGR, right click and add the ACT 5.6 server. It adds the server just fine, but then I get an error: Cannot connect to ACT-SERVER\ACT. [-2146232060] Invalid column name 'myRating'. Invalid column name 'vendorRating'. Invalid column name 'microsoftRating'. Invalid column name 'numCommGreen'. Invalid column name 'numCommYellow'. Invalid column name 'numCommRed'. Cannot find the object 'Appilcation_Report_vw', because it does not exist or you do not have permission I have looked at the guide: http://blogs.technet.com/b/configurationmgr/archive/2009/07/01/support-for-act-5-5-with-the-act-connector.aspx I've also used this ACT Connector: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/en/details.aspx?FamilyID=567be755-1d64-471d-8376-6b463491654b&displaylang=en I used this tutorial to get to where I am now: http://blogs.technet.com/b/configmgrteam/archive/2010/06/20/act-connector-and-act-5-6.aspx I do NOT have a 5.5 install or a older DB, so I'm not sure why this is becoming broke. I've distributed a Compatibility package through ACT and its DB is gathering data quiet nicely, but I really need it to integrate with SCCM for the Asset Inteligence portion since it has already ran and gathered all the software data we need. Please help as i've gone through mulstiple technet articles and nothing can give me a guide on how to integrate SCCM with ACT. All I have read can be summed up as follow: "Use Act 5.6 for Win7 deployment, use the ACT 5.5 Connector, and run the .VBS script and your set!"

The ACT 5.6 server is all on 1 host running SQL 2k8 Express. The error comes up when i go to: Application Compatibility Toolkit Server in ConfigMGR, right click and add the ACT 5.6 server. It adds the server just fine, but then I get an error: Cannot connect to ACT-SERVER\ACT. [-2146232060] Your ConfigMgr console machine (wherever you are running the console) cannot connect to your ACT db instance. Check your server/host/db/instance/account/password, make sure the db is up and available for remote connections. eliminate firewall configurations etc.tesgroup

@tesgroup Did you read through the whole post? Its not that it can't connect, its that it does not SEE the additional Fields that the connector is trying to use. Previously it would not connect, I went through and verified the follownig and was then able to connect to the DB but then it gave the error regarding fields not being in the database. I've gone through on the W7 machine which ACT 5.6 is installed w/ DB i've gone through and done the following: 1) Disabled Windows Firewall 2) In MS SQL 2k8 I enabled SQL Browser 3) Enabled Remote connections to SQL. 4) Added CR\SCCM$ Machine to my ACT server Anything else i'm missing?

hmm, if there was a connectivity issue during the installation of ACT, might the db_create have gone awry? not sure if it's easier to use sql studio etc to connect to the db, confirm the tables are all correct, or nuke it and do a fresh iinstall?tesgroup

I get the same thing. I installed ACT5.6 fresh and am using the same SQL 2005 box. Everything is installed on the same server: SCCM,SQL,ACT This would eliminate any connectivity issues I would think.-Rich

Based on a SQL trace, the "old" SCCM ACT connector attempts to drop and recreate some views. Because 5.6, in our case has new column names the view creations fail. Follow up here... http://ccmexec.com/?p=421 Download for new connector is here.... http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/en/details.aspx?FamilyID=567be755-1d64-471d-8376-6b463491654b&displaylang=en

I too have run into this issue. We have our sccm server and act server separate. When i try to connect this is the error I'm getting: Cannot connect to xxxxxxx\SQLEXPRRESS [-2146232060] Invalid column name 'myRating'. Invalid column name 'VendorRating'. Invalid column name 'microsoftRating' Invalid column name 'numCommGreen'. Invalid column name 'numCommYellow' Invalid column name 'numCommRed' Cannot find object 'Application_Report_vw', because it does not exist or you do not have permissions. i have looked in SQL Studio and the view "Application_Report_vw", does exist. I've tried everything and I'm stuck and I can't find anything as far as installation notes, troubleshooting documentation or instructions by microsoft for the act sccm connector. The release notes that come with the act connector are poor at best. Anyone have any ideas how to fix this?
