SCCM 2007 Prerequisite checker fails...
Hi all, I'm trying to install SCCM 2007 SP2 but am not getting very far! Hope someone can help. Some background. This is an entirely new setup. We're moving from Symantec Ghost. I don't know particularly much about SQL Server, which is where I believe I'm stuck...I'm trying to install SQL Server 2008 R2 and SCCM Server on the same server. I found a great guide to installing SCCM here: http://www.petenetlive.com/KB/Article/0000297.htm but I'm stuck at the prerequisite checker. Checking the ConfigMgrPrereq log, I see the following: <03-22-2011 16:05:24> Could not connect to SQL database. <03-22-2011 16:05:24> SVR-SCCM; SQL Server sysadmin rights; Error; Either the user account running Configuration Manager Setup does not have sysadmin SQL Server role permissions on the SQL Server instance targeted for site database installation or the SQL Server instance could not be contacted to verify permissions. Setup cannot continue. Running SQL Server 2008 R2 and am trying to install SCCM on the same server. It's a Windows 2008 Server R2 on the domain. The name of the server is SVR-SCCM. When I run the checker, it prompts for the following: SQL Server and instance: SVR-SCCM\SCCMSQL SDK Server: SVR-SCCM Management Point computer FQDN on the intranet: SVR-SCCM.domain.com I suspect I'm either not entering the correct name for the instance, although I think I did. When I try to run the SQL Server 2008 R2 management Studio, the login screen has server name: (local), authentication: Windows. As the fields for Username and password are greyed out, I'm unable to enter my credentials. I've tried installing using the steps in the link above, but can't connect to the SQL Server from that login screen. I also tried running the install as domain/administrator, but still no go. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I know I won't get too far if I can't even get past the prereq checker! Thanks in advance, Sir_timbit

Hi, When you installed SQL server which use or group did you specify as the SQL administrators? I guess your account does not have SQL sysadmin rights like the checker mentioned. Make sure you have those rights, then you can also open the Management Studio. The fact you cannot open the management studio now says you don't have the right permissions. BTW it is normal when Windows Authentication is selected you cannot type a user. It uses the integrated account. Follow me through my blog and Twitter!

Hi, Following the guide I mentioned above, I created two groups in AD, SQL-ADMIN and SCCM-ADMIN. I created two new users--sccmadmin and sqladmin--and put them in their respective groups. Both users are domain admins. Surely the domain administrator should be able to open the Management Studio? Right now I can't. I get a Microsoft SQL Server Error: 18456. Researching that one brings up several potential reasons... I had set up SCCM successfully on a test box, but that was with Win2003 not Win2008, and SQL Server 2008 not 2008 R2. The test box was also the test DC, so basically everything was running on the one system, which is fine for just testing and experimenting, but not so much for a production environment.

You can be a domain, schema or enterprise admin, it doesn't mean you have rights within SQL. As long as you can't open the management studio your rights are insufficient. Which gorup user did you specify during setup? If you don't remember reinstall SQL.Follow me through my blog and Twitter!

Ah, thanks for the clarification. Guess it goes without saying that there really is no one size fits all configuration for SQL 2008 for use with SCCM. I reinstalled SQL 2008 and after that I was able to login to the Management Studio. Then I had to make a number of security permission changes in AD on the DC, as well as in the Security/Login Settings for the SQL database in the Management Studio. The PreReq checker passed and I was eventually able to install SCCM 2007 R3. In fact the hardest part of the install was figuring out the correct security settings for SQL2008.

Hi Sir_Timbit Could you explain which changes concerning security permission in AD and in the security/Login settings for the SQL Database did you do in order to solve the problem? I am having the same Issue. 1 - The User has the sysadmin role in the SQL Server 2 - The SCCM is trying to be installed in the same SQL Server 3 - The SCCM computer account is member of the local group administrator of the SQL Server 4 - Same scenario windows server 2003 sp2. SQL 2008 SP1. SCCM 2007 SP2. 5- SPN is correct I don't know what else to do. I already have deinstalled and reinstalled the SQL Server. Any help would be appreciated.
