SCCM 2007 Image with Customized apps/profile
Hello, I'm very new to SCCM. Always been using different image utility in the past like Ghost/ZEN to image machines. So please bare with me if I sound like an idiot. Here's what I want to do. I want to have a "golden" image and deploy it to the rest of machines. I'm up against very short deadline and because I'm so new to SCCM, I don't have enough time to do all the front end work to have just one image working on multiple machine models. So I built Windows 7 Enterprise image and customize the desktop/settings/apps in audit mode. Now I want to capture it to the network and deploy using SCCM. Below are different steps I took to try to capture and deploy this image but I was not able to do so. 1. Sysprep the machine with the answer file that has profile copy in it and shut down the machine. 2. Create an image capture task with just Capture Operating System Image and advertised it. Result: Machine does not get capture and just reboots without any error codes. Next: I edited my task sequence and add Prepare ConfigMgr Client for Capture and Prepare Windows for Capture with option for mass storage and do not reset activation checked. Result: Did not capture. Went back to the reference machine with the customized profile and audit mode. Then I create a capture media and used that. Left the machine in Audit Mode and ran the capture media. That captured the machine but didn't have my customized profile copied over to the default user profile. Question: How can I capture this already customized "golden" image and deploy? Can the answer file be somehow integrated into the sccm capture media as I could not get my PXE task sequence to capture and have no idea why. Also can you be kind of specific because I'm quite new to the SCCM environment. Thanks,

The easiest way is to create a capture media (CD) from the Task Sequence NodeMichael Petersen http://blog.coretech.dk/mip/

you can create capture media in the sccm console to capture this image (right click on Task Sequences, choose create media, choose capture...), but it's far better (and recommended) to follow the build and capture process which will create a master image that you can then deploy as dynamically as you wish. here's a step by step 4 part guide to the build and capture process for Windows 7 and here's a powerpoint explaining the differences in task sequences cheers niall My step by step SCCM Guides I'm on Twitter > ncbrady

I agree that the easiest way is to create a capture media. If you need specific step by step you can find an example here: http://www.kozeniauskas.com/itblog/2008/01/18/sccm-creating-capture-media/ Or if you want to try to capture the os using a task sequence you can try this: http://www.windows-noob.com/forums/index.php?/topic/1543-how-can-i-capture-windows-7/ Oddvar www.msitpros.com

The capture media works fine but I can't figure out where I can copy the customized profile to the default profile using the capture media. Can't find any threads online that talks about that either.
