SCCM 2007 Deployment Scenario
Hi All: I am curious to know the SCCM deployment scenario. Great if I can get guidance on this. I want to install SCCM SP1 and then upgrade it to the SCCM SP2 R3. I have got all the setup files ready with me. For installation and upgradation which scenario should I follow from the below SCENARIO 1 Install SCCM SP1Configure required rolesUpgrade the site to SCCM SP2Configure required rolesUpgrade the site to R3Configure required roles SCENARIO 2 Install SCCM SP1Upgrade the site to SCCM SP2Configure required rolesUpgrade the site to R3Configure required roles SCENARIO 3 Install SCCM SP1Upgrade the site to SCCM SP2Upgrade the site to R3Configure required roles

Hi, I would download the SCCM 2007 media with SP2 included and install it and the upgrade to R3, instead of installing SP1 first and then upgrade to Sp2. Any special reason for installing Sp1 first? regards, Jrgen-- My System Center blog ccmexec.com -- Twitter @ccmexec

Thanks to all for the replies. Yes, the SP1 media which is available with us is for installation of SCCM and the SP2 media is for upgrade only. Can not install SP2 directly from that media.

Curious why you are installing a new 2007 site when 2012 has been released?John Marcum | http://myitforum.com/cs2/blogs/jmarcum/|

Actually working for a client, they have already their existing SCCM 2007 infrastructure present. Currently there is a requirement to add a Primary site to the hierarchy and thats why trying to figure out to build the site with minimal technical steps.

Hi, To use minimal technical steps download the media that includes SP2 from Volume licensing for instance, it will save you a lot of time/effort. regards, Jrgen -- My System Center blog ccmexec.com -- Twitter @ccmexec

I strongly recommend Jorgen's suggestion. SP1 does not support 2008 R2 site systems and so if you are installing on 2008 R2, none of your scenarios above is supported.Jason | http://blog.configmgrftw.com | Twitter @JasonSandys

Just one thing to recheck. In a test lab, I did the following SCCM configuration on a Windows 2008 R2 system and it worked. Since SCCM SP1 does not support Windows 2008 R2 system and somebody who does not have the SCCM SP2 media to start SCCM installation, in that case can be the below steps followed? Installed SCCM SP1Upgraded the site to SCCM SP2Upgraded the site to R3Configured required roles

I can't comment specifically on whether this will technically work or not (although I think it does) only that it is not supported. You should be able to download the proper media from the VL site though and I recommend you pursue that first.Jason | http://blog.configmgrftw.com | Twitter @JasonSandys
