SCCM 2007 Client Assignment Issue

Hi,

I am having trouble assigning the site code to around 250 machines and these machines seems to have the similar issue with regards to the client assignment.

I have been working on this issue from past few days and tried all the possible troubleshooting steps with no luck.

So here is the environment details.

---------------------------------------------------------

Central Site - does not support any client. SLP is installed here

Primary 1 - support clients and this is the site where we are facing issues.

Primary 2 - support clients

--------------------------------------------------------

  • AD extended
  • Boundaries added
  • DNS publishing is enabled
  • SLP is configured in central site and also published in WINS server.
  • WINS server setting are passed to client machines.
  • 80,443,445,3268,3269 - No issues with these ports from client side.

Hi Matthew,

Are they domain joined?

Yes, those machines are joined correctly to domain.

(However i asked AD team to rejoin few machines to AD)

Can the machine see the Active Dir?

I can see the machines AD Users and Computer and Domain user is able to login in those machines.

Did portqry to check the status of 3268 and 3269 port from client to domain controller : both ports are Listening

Is systems Management in the AD setup correctly?

Ad is extended and SCCM has published info in container and ALL Sites servers have full access on container.

Central site - SLP is configured (Does not Manage Clients)

Primary site 1 - No SLP Configured (Manage clients)

Primary Site 2 - No SLP configured (Manage Clients)

Question:

Does SLP at central site has Site and MP information of both Primary sites..? Is there a way/log to confirm it?

Or do i have to configure SLP on both Primary sites as well so that clients from their respective sites can get information from the SLP configured at Primaries.

Please advise

Ok...So i did little bit of search and found out the below note from Microsoft technet and that answers my above query.

You need only one server locator point for the Configuration Manager 2007 hierarchy, even if you have multiple sites. In a multi-site hierarchy, install the server locator point in the central site. If you install a server locator point in the middle of the hierarchy, it will have no knowledge of sites above it in the hierarchy.

However, can anyone figure out something from the above logs and guide me on where the problem might be.

Thank You
