SCCM / Intune mobile device management

Hi,

I have the following business requirements for SCCM 2012 / Intune and mobile device management:

Head Office, staff of about 45.

Other sites, of which we have a dozen, these have anywhere between 3 and 10 staff. So about 120 staff around the place.

Staff typically have a laptop, even if they are deskbound (this policy will change).

We have upwards of another 200 staff who are either contractors or subcontractors that are issued a mobile device, of which 99% of the time is an Android phone and an Android Tablet. So there's probably 600-650 mobile devices that we need to manage.

So the base requirements for both PC's (Desktop/Notebook) and mobile devices are:

Hardware Inventory
Software Inventory
Application Deployment
Bandwidth monitoring **
Geotracking
Remote Wipe etc for mobiles
Policy Enforcement (ie: require PIN on devices)
Wifi Policy enforcement (auto enrollment in Office Wifi networks)

So far we've had a look at Meraki for the MDM, and been suggested we look at www.maas360.com. Meraki is free for up to 100 devices, and maas is about $4 a device per month. Intune was the other candidate. So essentially the "desktop" component isn't too heavy, particularly when they've come from nothing anyway, but the mobile management is, given the large mobile workforce. One thing we're really interested in is tracking data usage, as we have users who are doing 7gb a month, with users in a similar role doing 25% of that. So determining (for example) if they've used 3gb of data on Facebook/Youtube etc is essential for determining if they are using the issued device for its intended purpose.

So here are my questions:

I am looking at a Intune and/or SCCM solution?

1. How much can SCCM do from this requirement. I expect it can handle all the application deployment - but is there anyway to do the bandwidth management?

2. Can Intune do this by itself - without SCCM?

3. Also I assume from the SCCM doco if you want to connect mobile devices to SCCM you must do this via intune?

Thanks,

Ward

#3: yes, Intune needed (hybrid) if you want to manage mobile devices

#1/2: bandwidth monitoring, geotracking not possible today.

Although I love SCCM, with so few actual computer vs mobile and I assume so little IT staff. You might want to seriously consider intune standalone. It can do everything that you have asked for.

Just to add to what I said, it will do everything except for what Torsten has already pointed out.
