SCCM: The operating system reported error 997: Overlapped I/O operation is in progress
Hello I have a problem with SCCM 2007 SP 2 R2. I’m getting some errors in the “site system status” exactly in “sms_site_component_manager” : - Could not read registry key "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\ProductOptions" on computer SQLSERVER. The operating system reported error 997: Overlapped I/O operation is in progress. - SMS Site Component Manager failed to configure site system "\\SQLSERVER" to receive SMS server components. - SMS Site Component Manager could not detect which version of the Microsoft Windows NT Server operating system is running on site system "\\SQLSERVER". The operating system reported error 997: Overlapped I/O operation is in progress. Like the name from the server says it is my SQL server used for the sccm database. Some background info: The sccm server is in domain aaa.xxx.com and the sql server is in the domain bbb.xxx.com. Between those domains are trust relationships enabled. Installation went successfully and sccm seams to work. The computer object from sccm has been added to the local administrator group on the sql server. I have added also rights for the sccm computer object in the registry from the sql server. Nothing what I did helps, does anyone know how to handle this error messages?

The sccm server is in domain aaa.xxx.com and the sql server is in the domain bbb.xxx.com. http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb694003.aspx: "They can be installed in different domains within the forest, with the exception of the site server, SMS Provider computer, reporting point, and site database server, which must all reside in the same domain."

OK, so you think that the error messages described in the former post are related to the multi domain configuration? Only those errors appear, should there not be more error if the config is wrong?

I just wanted to tell that you are running an unsupported configuration. I never tried that scenario so I can't tell which errors might occur. I've seen those 997 errors before (even if the SQL server was in the same domain) and they just disappeared after some time.

Unfortunately this error is showing up now for some days and it seems not to disappear from alone.

We're having similar issues here, but all is in the same domain. It turned out that one of the domain controllers was giving problems. Forcing the affected sccm server to use another domain controller (using nltest /sc_reset:domain\newdomaincontroller ) and restarting the sccm services resolved our problem.
