SCCM2012 R2 Failed to create capture Windows7

Hi,

I have a trouble with my SCCM2012 R2. I have recently installed  in a test environment on a virtual machine with MS Windows Server 2012R2  SCCM. When installing I was guided by the following instruction: prajwaldesai.com/sccm-2012-r2-step-by-step-guide/

All was well until I got to part14  where I wanted to get the capture image from computer with MS Windows 7 x64. First, I create a Task Sequence Media, chose capture media with shared directory and select Boot image (x64) distributed on DP. Further, to another virtual machine Windows 7 x64 (located in workgroup), I inserted created capture.iso and setup wizard. I choose shared directory on sccm, domain account and password  that has enough permissions to store the captured file to the shared folder. After that, start the process of creating capture: I see a job sysprep command, capturing volume. But, after 5-10 minutes, my computer with Windows 7 unexpectedly restarting. As a result, creates a file Win7.wim size 250Mb.

I looked at the log SMSTS.LOG and saw the following:

Hi,

Have you tried to capture another Windows 7 computer? Still same error?

Yes, I tried to install on another computer Windows7x86 from another drive, but the same result. Note, that both computers are a virtual.

Did you start the capture from your running OS or did you boot the machine up with the media?

Why do you want to capture Windows 7 image? You should create a reference build and capture task sequence and run that in your VM to capture your reference image.

I start my capture from  running OS.

I want to keep the image of the operating system with all the installed programs and drivers from the reference computer, that would later expand it through PXE to other computers.

Ill try to create a reference build and capture task sequence. What happened will write later.

You really should automate the creation of your reference image, that's why I encourage you to change your method to the standard build & capture task sequence.

Any update?

I would strongly suggest you to build your Reference Image using MDT as per this guide:

https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dn744290.aspx

I would also suggest you to use the MDT Factory by Nickolaj Andersen for setting this up :)

Youre doing it wrong :) ..the entire idea of OSD is deffenetly not based on this, that you will have thick image with everything included. Specially you should not include any drivers!

What you need to do is, to launch black VM via PXE to the Capture TS which will first insert OS installation files, update OS and then capture .wim.

Some organizations (like schools) want to create OSD deployment process to be superfast, because they tend to refresh Computers every evening. In this case, I would carefully recommend to include Office and its MS patches too into .wim, but nothing more. Well, maybe .NET framework and C++, but thats it.
