Root management server unavailable
SCOM 2007 SP1. Since last week I'm seeing these "Root management server unavailable" alerts in my active alerts. They get closed on its own by system in sometime. Everything seems to work fine as I've not got any escalations yet. The description is: The root management server (HealthService) is running but has reported limited functionality soon after 11/30/2010 7:36:34 AM. The specific reason code is 43 and description is " System workflows essential to running of the product have failed to load. ". Is this a bug ? Are theer any work arounds.Thanks, Harry :-)

Hi This was an issue on SP1 with the SNMP module - do you have the Dell MP installed? Or SNMP monitoring configured? If so, do you have cumulative update 1 installed? @Graham, No Dell MP installed. Not sure how to check SNMP monitoring configured. Any help here ? I applied the above patches in my test environment and the reporting feature stopped. We are now rebuilding the test SCOM from scratch. So I'm not sure if the management will allow me to apply the same on production box.Thanks, Harry :-)

@Vivian, As per the symptoms of the issue you mentioned I do not see any error event id 4000 in my operations manager log. So am not sure if this hotfix applies to me. Any other leads ?Thanks, Harry :-)

Hi, We had the same problem with SCOM 2007 R2. Do you have AD Integrate? And dynamic Groups? So cause this work is running all by the SDK Service, the Service could come overloading and so sometimes it sends no heartbeat - this caused the RMS Unavailable Alert. After filling up the groups with explicit members and let the AD Integrate (we have domains with thousands of computer objects...) byside, it works much better. A Microsoft Supporter told us, it's a Feature not a Bug... :-)

I do not see any Root Management Server Unavailable alerts today. Fingers crossed, I assume it as a bad dream. Closing the thread,will reopen if the issue reoccurs.Thanks, Harry :-)
