Restoring user state (.mig) onto a system where the user has already logged-in?

We have deployed a new Windows 7 Enterprise SP1 PC to a VIP. I have run scanstate.exe and captured his user profile to a state store (using USMT from WAIK 8.1).  That went fine...  I can see the .MIG file in the state store.  For the record, his 'old' computer was also Windows 7 Enterprise SP1.

I have since found out that techs have logged-into the new computer as the VIP and configured iTunes and other apps, mapped printers, and installed software.  So the VIP already has a new configured profile on the new computer.

My question is, if I login as an admin account and run loadstate to restore the VIPs profile (when the same profile already exists on the destination PC) what is default behavior?  IE- will the profiles merge with no risk?  Or will the existing profile be renamed and I wind up with two profiles?  I will do some testing but I would really like to hear from anyone who has done this already.

I need to decide whether it is 'safe' to do this or whether to just do a manual file copy (since much of the profile has been setup already).

Thanks,

FP
