Uninstalled the Internet Explorer 10 since one application in this windows server 2008 R2 Sp1 is not supported by IE10.

After that , when I install IE 8 , getting the error message " Internet Explorer 8 is not supported on this operating system".

WS2008R2 comes with IE8 as an OS component, so, you cannot download & install IE8 on WS2008R2 (same as Windows7).

You may need to open Server Manager / "Programs and Features" -> "Turn Windows Features on or off"

Still IE 8 is not restored

I agree with DONPick. The Internet Explorer 8 is a built-in future included in Windows Server R2 SP1. There is no need to install it manually.

How did you uninstall Internet Explorer 10?
If you have Internet Explorer 10 installed previously, there should be an update called Internet Explorer 10 located in the installed updates catalog(Control Panel\Programs\Programs and Features\View installed updates). After uninstalling this update and restarting the machine, we will get Internet Explorer 8.
