Restoring content from Mysites

If anyone can shred me some knowledge on this much appreciated.

ex-we have a HNSC named-

employee1 deleted all the content out of the mysite.

after 1 month employee1 realizes that the contents are needed back.

So now all other employee contents are in same MySite content database we back them up daily.

we cant restore the content DB as it may overwrite the data..

so we planed to restore to a test farm and make a new webapp and attach the db to access the contents of the employee.

challenge is I cant make the same HNSC of the test environment as they are same as Prod environment.

how can I restore the MySite Content DB to a new farm and access the site contents please?

Thank you

Once you attach the contents DB of mysite to a new web application in test farm the address will be "http://"yourwebapp"/sites or personal/employee1. Here your HNSC might be lost but it's irrelevant as you are only focusing on restoring deleted contents. After you making sure all contents are retrieved then take a backup and restore it to Prod.

Warning: during this operation new contents in Prod will be overwritten unless you take explicit backup of Prod site. Hope this helps!

Hi Sham,

For this issue, I recommend to verify the things below:

  1. Make sure that the host for the MySite site collection has been added in the DNS server and its IP address is the server where the web application runs.
  2. Make sure that the managed path used in the site collection exists in the new web application.
  3. Please check ULS log for more detailed error message for further research.

Best regards,
